Comments
These one-day shoots are called “VOICE” and are professionally produced 5 minute productions designed to showcase the writer’s voice and potential of a feature script in development. These are a carefully crafted moment or scene that connects an audience to what’s at the heart of the writer’s feature. These pieces will be screened at an Industry Showcase event for The Norman Jewison Film Program and will eventually be available online through the CFC’s YouTube channel for further viewing.

Storyline
In a cramped little diner, insurance agent Nestor Hauk takes a meeting with a potential client, a man named Glenn “Smiles” Thorogood – but everybody just calls him Smiles. As they sit down, it becomes quickly clear that Thorogood’s intentions are not to deal in business, but spring a blackmail trap on Hauk. The stakes are made clear, and Smiles leaves him to sit with his decision.
Roles
Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
Principal | WAITRESS | Female 20 - 28 Years old |
Description Our waitress hasn't been at this specific restaurant terribly long, but has been in the service industry long enough to know the ropes. Is slightly put off by the dynamic between Nestor and Smiles, but can't put her finger on anything inherently wrong. Thinks maybe it's an overly eager, distant uncle reconnecting with an adult nephew. |
