Storyline
A young woman elects to begin panhandling, and in the process, discovers the reality of the vulnerable populations living on the streets.

Description Mary is an unhoused individual, who walks the streets barefoot. Despite a scruffy, unkempt appearance, she carries herself with grace and calmness. She has a gentle face, warm smile, and kind eyes. When she engages with someone, she confidently looks them inthe eye. She has been unhoused for most her life, stemming from intergenerational trauma. Despite having little, she cares more about the welfare of those around her. Throughout her life, any money or opportunity she’s had typically results in her sharing or giving it away to better the lives of others, leading to her perpetual homeless. She's respected by the others in the streets and looked to as an Elder for those in need. Mary contrasts typical stereotypes of homeless and panhandlers – she is thoughtful, gentle, observant, calm, and well spoken. She speaks quietly, slowly, but deliberately and with strength.Mary represents the compassion and generosity that our main character fails to understand. Indigenous. | ||
