ACTRA Student Production - we can accept Union and Non-Union performers. Honourarium of $100 provided for Lead (Elvira) and $75 for Principal (Leo). Actors will receive a copy of the film and meals and transport covered.

We can accept union and non-union actors through our student agreement with ACTRA. This is a non-paying student film and no permit is required. Actors will receive a copy of the finished film for their demo reel. Meals and transport are covered by the production, and we are providing a $100 honorarium for the role of Elvira and a $75 honorarium for the role of Leo.

Storyline

Logline:
As the 23 year old, fragmented, Elvira discovers that her imaginative son believes he is becoming a fish, she is faced with her own wish of a different reality.

Synopsis:
In what seems like a meaningless everyday life, 23-year-old, fragmented Elvira balances late nights at grimy clubs and daily coffee shop shifts while navigating motherhood. One night, her son Leo is in the bathtub and asks her why his fingers get wrinkly underwater. She answers that it’s because he is about to become a fish.
From that moment on, Elvira observes Leo as he attempts to keep a limb under water at all times, hoping that the magic he was promised is real. At the same time, Elvira finds herself wishing to escape nearly every situation she is in - from pretentious art performances to sugar free birthday parties full of yoga moms and inappropriate dads. Elvira disappoints herself more than anyone over and over, and she can’t even keep Leo’s goddamn goldfish alive.

Description 23 year old Elvira dissociates a lot. She often wishes she was somewhere else, and wonders how she ended up where she did. Her brain is as fragmented as her life is - as a young mom to five year old Leo. Elvira is fun, warm, and has so much love for the people around her. However, disappointing them seems to be the only thing she really manages. Actor should be comfortable with partial nudity, simulated sexual actions (one scene), and being underwater.

Description Leo is an imaginative and curious child. He absorbs everything around him and always tries to figure out how things in the adult world work. Leo tends to keep to himself and often finds loud kids annoying. He loves his pet goldfish more than anything, and wishes there was a way for the two of them to communicate. Must be comfortable being in a bathtub for one scene.
