Ernest
Ernest is stocky and pretending to be tough as a reluctant mugger. While it's not the right thing for him, he's open to trying new things as a struggling creative person who hasn’t found what they’re good at yet.
Lucy
Lucy needs to sell her clothes for extra money but doesn't want to give them up for cheap. She doesn't like that Cleo has an easier time with selling her clothes by accepting low ball offers but eventually acquiesces. She's a loyal and caring friend to Cleo but can also be judgmental and harsh.
Ben
Ben is charismatic and confident but also obsessed with his past two-month relationship that ended five years ago. He brushes things off easily but is quick to bring things back up again as soon as he gets the chance. He's Vincent’s friend.
Vincent
Vincent is reserved but chooses when to be vocal. While he might hold back with others, he isn't afraid to tell his friend, Ben what he thinks.
Elaine
Elaine is an artist looking for inspiration by capturing audio recordings of the city environment. She's patient, nurturing, and curious about the world. She loves to encourage her son, Elliot and his interests.
Lenny
Lenny is an established academic who is slightly insecure and willing to admit it. The fact that a child has read more Proust than he has leads him to shift his whole day.
Austin
Austin is the type of person who loves to get everyone’s opinion before making a decision. He's talkative and steamrolls conversations due to being mostly unaware of social cues.
Judy
Judy wants to meet her friend and have some peace and quiet on her way there and would prefer to not have bumped into Austin. She's a good listener and still cares about her friend despite being somewhat distracted and disinterested.
Harold
Harold is searching for his lost cat who is his closest companion. He's a vivacious and active senior who has no issue with sharing his feelings openly and casually.
Victor
Victor is a visual artist who uses various lenses to view and understand people like astrology and the Myers-Briggs personality indicator. He's formal, polite and usually speaks without contractions.
Chuck
Chuck is a musician in his mid-30s who has a desire for something new outside of his status quo so he buys a colourful jacket that he immediately doubts.
Elliot
Elliot can be seen as precocious but he just really likes Proust. He follows his interests with enthusiastically , especially when encouraged by his mom, Elaine. He's not trying to prove anything, he just wants to talk about what he likes to anyone who will listen.
Diane
Diane is the friend who’s always around and everyone knows. Many of her friends would call her their best friend. She's kind and accepting of others.
TTC Attendant
They want to get through the work day and they don't have time for Violet asking about a dead sparrow on the sidewalk. They see numerous dead birds throughout the year so it doesn't matter to them. They would prefer to be at home.
Not Diane
She wants to get home after leaving the office early and would prefer to not be stopped by Chuck who thinks her name is Diane. She gets annoyed once Chuck continues to insist they went to school together.
Parking Attendant
They stick to the rules of their job, they give tickets when necessary and don't negotiate. They're uninterested in engaging with anyone during work hours and would prefer to be left alone to listen to their radio
IRA
ANY ETHNICITY Edison’s father. A humble and hard-working factory worker and freelance carpenter with his own side business. He expects no handouts in life which is why him and his wife do not accept any special benefits from the government. He becomes very ill due to the toxic conditions of the plastic factory he works in and is unable to perform physical labor.
NAÚL
ANY ETHNICITY Must be 18 by the time of shooting One of Edison’s best friends who embraces and encourages the slacker mentality. Puts on a tough exterior but inside is insecure and afraid of failure. He clashes with Ed over Ed’s shift in attitude to working hard at his family business.
MICHELLE
ANY ETHNICITY Puts her family first and shares her husband’s penchant for humbleness and hard work. Works full time as a seamstress / tailor but can’t support the family on her own. Encourages her son, Ed, to step up and support the family.
GUY
ANY ETHNICITY A freelance carpenter who Ira frequently hires to help him in his shop. Displays a blue-collar guardedness but is willing to lend a helping hand to Ed out of respect for Ed’s dad, Ira. High school dropout but very successful and hardworking. He acts as a mentor to Edison as he learns how to run his father’s shop.
