We see the characters looking at their phone, TV, tablet, or laptop, and their hair gets blown back, goal lights go off, confetti bursts, and screens illuminate their face, as the characters respond with excitement to the news that it’s Black Friday and SaskTel is offering their best deals of the year. (see storyboard as the sides)
Noah
Scruffy, hardworking, dedicated prospector from the 1860s during the British Caribou Gold Rush in B.C. He is introverted and enjoys his time alone. He doesn’t mind getting dirt on his hands, and he has a minor dependence on smoking and drinking. Dresses with clothing one would wear in the wilderness.
Frank
Comely, polite, friendly middle-aged man who works as an appraiser and banker during the Caribou Gold Rush in B.C. in the 1860s. He is well spoken and does not pry into others' business, though he does show concern for others if he feels it is necessary. Dresses professionally, suit, waistcoat, glasses.
Lawman
*Voice Only*; A gruff, no-nonsense lawman. Voice is raspy from heavy smoking, and his tone suggests he is irritated with the things that come with his job.
Simran Arora
A sharp-tongued Indian international student from Delhi who grieves her father’s death. Displaced in Canadian culture, she shuts people out and escapes into Bollywood fantasies complete with musical numbers. When classmate Ryan gets her to open up, she misreads his kindness as romance, projecting her need for belonging onto him. By the end of the film, Simran grows from a dreamer avoiding reality to someone who can face it with strength. A role requiring an actress who can blend comedy, sharp wit, and emotional vulnerability. Note: Role requires an actress fluent in Hindi with dance experience (Bollywood preferred) for music sequences. Singing experience is a plus but not mandatory. If singer, please prepare sides as well as Hindi song for self-tape. Must also be available on the weekends (Saturday or Sunday) for choreography starting Oct. 18th to film shoot. Indian accent.
Ryan Sharma
A charming, well-meaning boy-next-door with a camera around his neck who deflects awkward situations with humour. Canadian-raised and disconnected from his Indian heritage, Ryan is drawn to Simran’s cultural connectedness as a way to understand his own roots. When his kindness is misinterpreted as romantic interest, he must navigate the awkward aftermath. A role requiring an actor who can balance awkward charm, curiosity, and comedic timing.
Priya Jindal
Simran's pragmatic best friend back home who appears via FaceTime calls. Caring and skeptical, she tries to ground Simran's romantic fantasies while navigating her own life in Delhi. Their conversations reveal the growing distance between them as Simran becomes defensive about her new reality. A role requiring an actress who can balance warmth with tough love. Note: Role requires an actress fluent in Hindi. Indian accent.
Chris
The instructor of 'How to Tell a Story 101' who delivers insights about conflict and storytelling that frames our story. Sardonic and wise, he engages students with a coffee in hand and dry humour, providing a thematic bookend to Simran's journey. A role requiring an actor with natural authority.
Emma
Ryan’s girlfriend of four years who appears at the Diwali party. Confident and warm, she’s unaware of the romantic tension she’s walking into. A small but impactful role requiring an actress who can convey a gut punch.
Female Vocalist
VOICE ONLY. A recording vocalist for two songs featured in the film. Ideally, a voice that can effectively portray the vulnerability and resolve of a college student dreamer, as well as the anger and hurt faced once her dream world is shattered. Note: Studio voice-work. Hindi required.
Papa
VOICE ONLY. Simran’s deceased father who appears only through voicemail. Gentle and wise, he represents the connection to home and family that Simran has lost. A voice-over only role requiring an actor who can convey paternal affection. Note: Studio voice-over. Hindi required.
ELLA
White American female. Imposing presence, intelligent, and perceptive. A worldly woman, she is a piano teacher and full-time governess to Mr. Fisher’s son, whom she cares for with motherly devotion. Polished, elegant, and an excellent conversationalist. Role requires native English fluency.

Ever the rule abider, Wilson can be a bit of a nervous nelly. Probably the last person to be picked in a dodgeball game. CAUCASIAN

Can play the role of Male, 43, the first born of a real estate magnate, and strangely evasive, he doesn't seem to grasp the severity of the situation when asked by the news media about the drafting of an apology by his real estate company. Even the fact that his own brother is being held hostage by an armed man does not have any impact on his responses. He's not a man to be rushed. CAUCASIAN
EFFIE
Can play the role of Female, 60, arthritic, seen with a walker, she is Tony's sister who lives alone in a trailer park. Reclusive and not sociable, she finally opens up to Ginny about how her brother scammed her out of her money. Effie is formidable in her own right. Once an aspiring journalist herself, she reads two newspapers a day. She is quick-witted with a biting tongue. CAUCASIAN
A.D.A. MARTZ
Can play the role of Male, 40s, this A.D.A. gets verbally combative with Ruckelshaus regarding his defence of allegedly corrupt cops. He's the Penn of Penn & Teller. Voluble and combative in contrast to the always quiet Rimstadt (Teller). CAUCASIAN
DETECTIVE HART
Can play the role of Male, he is a detective on hand at the apartment complex, the site of the ongoing hostage situation. He unwittingly opens up to Ginny, telling her that Tony isn't really a bad guy, also mentioning a falling-out with Tony and his sister... CAUCASIAN
M.L. HALL
Can play the role of Male, he is Dick's father, owner of Meridian Mortgage. Gravelly-voiced, careful with his words, dismissive of the fact that his son is being held hostage, he makes it very clear that he will not be apologizing. Ever. Taciturn. Steely. Runs the family with an iron fist. CAUCASIAN
PEARL
Can play the role of Female, this octogenarian with big glasses and always a pack of unfiltered Pall Malls in her housecoat pocket, allows some of the press to use her apartment (situated across the street from the site of the hostage situation) as a base of operation... CAUCASIAN
