Storyline
Seeking quality time with his brother Sam, an increasingly rudderless military veteran, Miles agrees to help him smuggle some pills by snowmobile across a huge frozen lake straddling the Canadian border. It is supposed to be a low risk drop in an uninhabited wilderness. When Sam and Miles' snowmobiles go through thin ice on their lake crossing, they are saved by Russ, a local woodsman with a cabin near-by. As the two brothers slowly regain their strength at Russ' cabin, a collision course develops between the smugglers, the old man, and his teenage granddaughter Tori. Before too long, violence breaks out and Tori must make a dramatic escape into the wilderness and put to immediate use all of her grandfather’s teachings of survival. ...Hair of the Bear is a tense, action thriller set in the frigid outdoors. A witness to murder, Tori must survive a deadly game of cat and mouse in the wintery Canadian wilderness.

Lead | Sam | Male 28 - 36 Years old |
Description Lean and fit, Sam is blessed with good looks. A veteran of the war in Afghanistan, Sam has adapted poorly to life as a civilian and has fallen into drug smuggling. He and his brother Miles are running a shipment of fentanyl across the border near Lake of the Woods when their snow-mobiles go through the ice. They are saved by Russ, a local resident and woodsman, who offers them shelter. Sam’s brother Miles actually fell into the freezing water and is near death when Russ saved him. It becomes evident to Russ the two strangers are up to no good and may bring harm upon him and his teen-age granddaughter Tori who is staying with him. At gun-point, Russ demands they leave immediately. Sam is also armed and shoots Russ, leading to a fight for survival. ...And here is Sam’s back-story: He has always loved action. Signing up to the Marines after high school, Sam served two tours in Afghanistan. He thrived in combat situations - enough to make him a natural leader among his peers. But while on base duty, passing time and doing admin work, Sam’s behaviour was often erratic. He might go several days without sleep, then be found fast asleep in the ammo locker or in a ditch beyond the base's walls. After one particular extreme sleep-walking incident on tour in Afghanistan, he went missing and was eventually discovered essentially naked in a villager’s home far off base. His commanding officers decided that, for all his combat prowess, Sam had issues that made him a liability and he was offered an honourable discharge. Two years later, unable to fit into the civilian world, Sam drops out of business school. Though both charming and even articulate on the surface, Sam is too much of an erratic loner to fit in with regular folks doing normal things. ... For a while, he spent his time driving around the country getting involved in all sorts of odd situations. More recently, he’s been running fentanyl across a giant border lake into Canada. The money is good but mostly Sam likes the clandestine action and operating out in the wilderness. Sam has always seemed completely uninterested in romance and has never been in a relationship. Aside from his younger brother Miles, he has no friends either.

Lead | Miles | Male 24 - 29 Years old |
Description Sam’s younger brother Miles nearly dies when his snowmobile goes through the ice one night while running drugs over the US/Canada border near Lake of the Woods. He is saved by Russ, a local woodsman with a cabin near-by. After Miles survives the night under Russ’ care, it becomes clear to him that the two strangers are a risk to his safety and that of his teenage granddaughter Tori who is staying with him. At gun-point, Russ demands they leave. Russ is shot in the melee and Miles realizes Sam is intent upon killing Russ and Tori as they are witnesses who may identify the two brothers to police. Unlike his older brother, Miles is morally conflicted about murdering their saviours. ...And here is Miles’ back-story: Having grown up in Minneapolis, he had been living in Chicago since graduating from college, first working as a DJ in the electronic music scene, then as an IT specialist for a financial services company - a job he grew to hate. Homesick and longing to reconnect with his older brother, Miles recently quit his job and moved back to Minneapolis. He tires of the day by day grind and misses the misadventures he and Sam were involved in as high school students. But Miles has become concerned for his older brother who’s been acting unpredictably. He’s decided to try and get through to him about getting some kind of professional help. Struggling to find the right moment to address his brother’s deteriorating mental health, Miles agrees to join Sam on one of his shady smuggling missions. He hopes some time alone with his brother in the wilderness might provide the opportunity to bring up his concerns.

Supporting | Jeremy | Male 18 - 19 Years old |
Description Jeremy is a decent young man who works at the remote general store a few miles away from Russ’ cabin on Lake of the Woods. Business is slow over the winter, and Jeremy is bored by the lack of activity. So when Russ attends the store with his teenage granddaughter Tori, Jeremy is happily surprised to meet someone his age. The next day, Jeremy attends Russ’ cabin and offers to take Tori on a snowmobile ride, which for Jeremy is kind of a ‘date’. Tori thinks he’s cute and is happy to make a new friend. ...And here is Jeremy’s backstory: A quiet, calm and sporty youngster, he’s a good hockey player but maybe not quite aggressive enough. After graduating high-school, Jeremy decided to spend the year working to save up enough money to travel. He really wants to go to Australia and Thailand or maybe Costa Rica. Working the weekday shifts at Quibb’s marina in winter may seem too boring for most kids his age, but for Jeremy it’s his ticket out of town. With his father not in the picture and his mother passed away, Jeremy is a free spirit and determined to see the world. ONLY SUBMIT ARTISTS WHO WILL BE 18 YEARS OF AGE BY JANUARY 29, 2024.
