Storyline

Brian is a failed journalist living in his cousin's basement after returning home to Toronto from New York who looks to start fresh by embarking on a road trip across Canada to create a paranormal documentary series, but upon filming the pilot episode he sustains a crippling injury in the abandoned Robinwood Prison leaving him stranded, miles from help. Brian tends to his injuries and scavenges for supplies but at night, everything changes. He is constantly hunted by the spirits of the Prisons victims, demonic Canines that prevent his escape and the evil Warden. As Brian records his ordeal, he overwrites the tape giving us glimpses between the recordings of a past life with a woman who may or may not be responsible for leaving behind mysterious DV tapes for Brian to find and play in his camcorder, gradually shedding light on a deep grudge against him. There is no escape on his terms, he must find the answers from his past to set him free.

He currently lives in his cousin’s spare room having just returned to Toronto from New York after a failed journalism stint. Brian is charismatic and talented by nature, anything he turns his hand to he ascends quickly by any means but becomes bored once he establishes himself, unable to follow through or settle in fear something better might be waiting just around the corner. Extremely charismatic and bold but naive and impulsive. His fatal flaw is his obsession with greatness and finding his path in life that he truly loves, this drives him to abandon his Fiance who is terminally ill, he is helpless against his avoidant personality, rather than confront emotions and look internally it’s easier for him to start fresh. This guilt resurfaces time to time causing him to act out in drunken benders and self destructive behaviour. | ||

Description 40's-60's grizzled outdoorsmen. Born and raised on the land and infinitely wise. This hermit lives in the margins of society, preferring to live off the land in the woods than to adapt to modern life. His isolation took a dark turn years ago after the disappearance of his nephew MALCOLM, leaving him crotchety and morose. He continues to upkeep the abandoned town of Old Robinwood and search the forest/Prison grounds daily for his nephew, intimidating and threatening any strangers foolish enough to venture to the Prison in search of thrills. | ||

Description A punk teenage graffiti artist. Nephew of The Hunter. Malcolm found his escape by spending time tagging and vandalizing the Robinwood Prison, but in the end, succumbed to the call of the Prison, being the latest victim of it’s clutches before Brian. Malcolm and his wit were able to make it closer to escape than anyone else before him, leaving one final message on his video camera before his death. Profoundly guilt-ridden in his last moments, ashamed of his angst and behaviour, he asks for forgiveness from his parents, becoming a reformed rebel, but it was all too late. | ||

Description Mid 20's - 30's, a petite church girl who surprises you whenever you think you have her figured out. Shoulder length, prim and proper bob cut. Extremely bubbly and outgoing. Lives her life on the rails and by the numbers, her hobbies are her friends and relationships. Extremely loyal and compassionate, Frances’s goal in life is the complete opposite of Brian’s: find true love and grow old in rocking chairs on the Porch. Her innocence and genuine wholesome attitude makes it impossible to take issue with her as it’s probably a reflection of your short comings rather than hers. Frances moves to New York with Brian to support him in his dream but is blindsided when he abandons her upon a grim diagnosis, leaving her to fight alone. Being the first time in her life she’s been crossed, Frances’ world view completely shatters, leaving her to sour and ruminate about Brian each day as her health declines until the bitter end. Her hatred and spite leaves a permanent stain on the world as she passes away, alone, without even a phone call from the love of her life. That kind of energy doesn’t follow one to the next life, it lingers. | ||
