Storyline
Two Toronto grade seven students end up in the principal's office over a lunch time arguement about racial identity. The principal shares a story about the 12th century Muslim philosopher Ibn Rushd in an Andalusian Spanish marketplace, using the concept of Convivencia - meaning to co-exist - to celebrate their differences, rather than shunning them.

In their office, they lecture two conflicting grade 7 students about the lessons of Convivencia from 12th century Andalusian Spain, to solve their modern day issues of race, culture and ethnic differences. | ||

Description Black Caribbean. From Toronto, an academically intelligent grade 7 student that is called to the principal’s office for fighting with PETER at lunch. She is strong in her convictions, but not completely innocent. She has a troubled past of being bullied because of her ethnic background. Her emotional swings are fast but authentic, as she becomes increasingly open to the ideas that principal USTAD offers. | ||

Description Caucasian. Originally from Sudbury, a grade 7 student with dyslexia that is called to the principal’s office for fighting with AIDA at lunch. He is street smart and curious about everything, and loves reading Lord Of The Rings, even with its challenges as a dyslexic. He cannot understand why AIDA’s food smells differently, and tries to explain to principal USTAD how he didn’t start the fight with AIDA. | ||

Description A devout Christian during 12th century Andalusian Spain, she sells eggs at the market where she gets into an argument about fraud with a local FISHMONGER. Aggressive and manipulative, she uses a glass bowl to magnify her eggs and cheat customers, standing her ground regardless. Persuaded to tolerate her market stall neighbour by IBN RUSHD, she eventually becomes open to the idea of Convivencia, to share the market space fairly. *Not neccessary, but can indicate if able to speak Spanish or Arabic. | ||
