Storyline
A sweet young man growing up in a Toronto public housing project witnesses the brutal murder of his best friend’s brother, confronts his mother’s designs for an arranged marriage to his cousin in Pakistan, and finds his grit on the basketball court. Adapted from the celebrated novel by Humayun Khan, WRONG SIDE OF THE COURT is the tender portrait of a young man on the cusp of adulthood and the vibrant, sometimes violent community he dreams of escaping.

Description

Her husband died a few years ago in a motorcycle accident and she now finds herself raising two children alone in a land she finds alien and harsh. Her job at Value Village provides just enough income for the family to get by, and their subsidized apartment in Regent Park is the difference between one and two grocery runs to No Frills a month. Her great fear is being abandoned by her children as the adapt to secular Canadian values. Her hopes and dreams revolve around the promised marriage of her son, Fawad, to her brother’s daughter in Pakistan.
