Mother
Iranian. Mother is a rule follower. She builds a schedule and sticks to it, and will do whatever she can to help someone else. Before she escaped Iran, she was a well loved kindergarten teacher, and now works in the kitchen of a restaurant with her son and daughter.
Daughter
Iranian. Daughter is a stubborn but hardworking young woman who does not take her freedom for granted. She’s protective of her family, and passionate about her future in the culinary arts.
Son
Iranian. Son is almost your typical teenage boy in 2025. He’s learning be outwardly loving while not being cringe, but he doesn’t play around when it comes to family. Son has the least amount of memories of his childhood in Iran.
Kitchen workers
The kitchen workers are the voices in the busy kitchen. They are work oriented. It is a bonus if you experience working in a fast paced commercial kitchen. Must be available October 24th or 27th. Please specify which in your application.
Manager
Manager runs the restaurant. They are overworked, and pressed for time. They are dismissive of their employees and will do anything to get the job done. It is a bonus if you have experience working in a fast paced commercial kitchen. Must be available on October 24th and 27th.
Sarah Smith
(Sarah is a Foreperson/Supervisor) Seeking a versatile actor to portray a professional, observant, and calm supervisor. This character is central to multiple scenarios. She must confidently lead safety meetings, conduct sensitive investigations into potential employee impairment, and act as a reliable witness to an incident. The role requires portraying authority while maintaining a fair and supportive demeanour during confrontations. 2 shoot days - 62 lines.
Alex Tran
This role portrays a worker suspected of substance use. The actor must convey non-verbal and physical signs of impairment, such as red and unfocused eyes, slurred speech, slow movements, and unsteadiness. The character shifts from being dazed and unresponsive to startled, paranoid, and anxious when confronted. 1 shoot day - 11 lines
Dustin McKay
This actor will play a worker under the influence of alcohol. The performance begins with being disruptive, loud, and condescending during a safety meeting. It progresses to showing clear physical signs of impairment: being wobbly, clumsy, slurring words, and smelling of alcohol. During confrontation, the character is initially relaxed and deceptive, making excuses before eventually conceding. 1 shoot day, 16 lines.
Jamie Elliot
A responsible coworker who appears in two scenarios. In one, they show concern by reporting a colleague's unusual behavior to a supervisor. In another, they witness an equipment collision. 2 shoot days, non-speaking.
Leah Dela Cruz
An observant and concerned coworker. She notices his unusual behaviour and provides a key witness statement confirming he was clumsy and "talking a bit funny". 1 shoot day, non-speaking.
Parker Mandel
A non-speaking role requiring physical acting. This character is struck by a forklift while in a pedestrian crosswalk and is knocked to the ground. No actual falling or stunt work required. Safety measures will be in place on the shoot day. 1 shoot day, non-speaking.
Eric
After Eric’s delinquent days as a teenager, he has turned his life around, now serving his community as a defence attorney. Now a highly-serious man, Eric’s integrity as a lawyer is what he lives by in all aspects of his life. When his childhood friend Tony is caught up in a breaking and entering case, Eric steps up to the plate to help the friend who once helped him get on the straight and narrow. Eric’s undying loyalty ends up being his greatest obstacle as Tony is not the man who he once was, thus pushing Eric into a decision between holding onto what he once knew or accepting what the present holds.
Tony
Virtually unrecognizable from the caring boy he once was, Tony is a struggling alcoholic on trial for breaking and entering his employer’s home after his termination. He turns to defence attorney Eric, his childhood best friend and the only person who still has a shred of love for him in hopes to acquit. Knowing the pivotal role he played in Eric’s life, Tony guilt trips him into sticking with the case. Tony is caught in limbo, not wanting to face time for his actions, yet sitting down and demanding others do all of the work for him.
Prosecutor
The Prosecutor is a highly successful lawyer willing to pull out all-the-stops to strap the defence with the maximum punishment. Often coming off as arrogant and slimy, The Prosecutor is willing to push the judicial process in order to get the outcomes he wants. Despite his unorthodox practices, The Prosecutor still holds great reverence towards the system and will never cross the line into shady behavior. He always shoots for his best possible outcome, while taking no shortcuts to get there.
Melissa
Melissa is a steadfast yet loving woman. She is the wife of Eric and often serves as an anchor in his life. Although Eric is highly analytical with his job as a defence attorney, Melissa is always the first person to call out the problems in Eric’s life that have slipped through the cracks of his lawyer life and have invaded his personal life. Melissa’s security in life is what she wants Eric to have, so she always pushes him to be greater, even if it is not what he wants to hear.
Young Eric
Young Eric is a young, chauvinistic man more focused on his next impulse than his future at large. Not receiving attention in any capacity from anyone in his life has set him up on a bad path, but when his only friend Tony expresses his disappointment in the way his life is heading, Eric pivots, doing a 180 to try and be the best man he can be.
Young Tony
Young Tony is a delinquent with a heart of gold. He is a typical sixteen-year old boy, spending his days playing hockey with his best friend Eric. Seeing that Eric’s care-free behavior is what will send him down a bad path, Tony expresses his frustration with his friend that he knows can do so much better. Beneath his tough exterior, Tony is one that cares deeply for those close to him.
Judge
The Judge is an experienced member of the judicial system, which has bestowed her a lack of patience for any shenanigans. Strict, poignant, professional, but most importantly, fair. Her care for the system is deeply ingrained in her as she delivers the same care and passion to any case, whether it be big or small.
The Daughter
A Mexican immigrant who spent years living abroad, The Daughter returns home in hopes of reconnecting with her mother. The guilt of abandoning her mother haunts her and intensifies the alienation of coming back to the place where she grew up. Script contains inaudible Spanish dialogue, and actors who speak Spanish are strongly preferred.
The Mother
A woman who is deeply hurt by her daughter’s absence, The Mother struggles to recognize her daughter upon her return. She treasures the idea of her daughter as a little girl but struggles to accept her maturity. Her deeply rooted religious beliefs and traditional ways blind her, leading her to believe that her daughter’s presence is a ghost haunting her. Script contains inaudible Spanish dialogue, and actors who speak Spanish are strongly preferred.
