Male, 25-30, Black (BIPOC), is an HIV Positive addict with an impatient, crusty and volatile disposition in the same vein as Logan Roy in Succession. A sensitive manipulator but not a victim, Bakar understands his unchecked rage prevents him from getting what he wants, so he spends most of his time trying to keep his cool. A HINT TO BAKAR and THE SCENE: This is a nuanced drama with dark comedy woven throughout. Try resisting the impulse to lean into the “AIDS of it all” concentrating instead on each character’s motives.

He is a non-judgmental ally who’s seen it all and isn’t fazed by volatile patients like Bakar. All he wants is to get through his day of patients, ride his motorcycle home, kick back and enjoy the game with his wife and friends. A HINT TO BAKAR and THE SCENE: This is a nuanced drama with dark comedy woven throughout. Try resisting the impulse to lean into the “AIDS of it all” concentrating instead on each character’s motives.

NESTOR HAUK
Male, 30s, white, short, chubby, unsuspecting, anxious. A stout, nebbish, but stocky man. A shoe-in for Gimli from Lord of the Rings, sans beard and hair. The kind of guy that was doomed to middle management from the womb. Knows right & wrong, but is certain a good lie can bridge the gap. However you imagine this man, add an eyepatch.
GLENN
Male, 50s, any ethnicity, tall, slender, slick, charming, devious. The presence and sociopathy of Gordon Gecko, but with the charm and swagger of Uncle Buck. Takes great joy in twisting the knife in any position he’s able to. A huckster politician and career criminal, could sell fleas to a dog. Has a smile that would make a used car salesman commit seppuku.

Emily Yang
Tough, aggressive teen, though not in a loud way - warrior of the pen and the tongue, perhaps. Emily aspires to be a novelist, idolizes F. Scott Fitzgerald, capital- Romantic at heart. Baby-face: talking to her is to be ready to be yelled at by an overgrown kid who grew up reading the thesaurus for fun. (Actor should look 15/16ish, English-speaking role but bonus if they know a bit of Mandarin.)
Phoenix Walker
Male Lead, Age 18–25, WHITE Tattooed rock star; confident, damaged, intense; redemption arc. A gifted but tortured rock star. Phoenix is charismatic, rebellious, and impulsive — an archetypal bad boy with real trauma underneath. The son of an abusive father, he carries deep emotional scars and addiction issues. Over the course of the story, he transforms from a reckless, ego-driven musician into a remorseful man seeking redemption. The role demands depth: swagger, vulnerability, and musical authenticity. Actor must be comfortable portraying addiction, anger, guilt, and raw intimacy. Guitar skills or credible performance ability preferred. Requires multiple scenes with physical intensity and stunts (fights, emotional breakdowns, panic attacks)
Sabrina Simmons
Main Supporting / Antagonist - Age: 18-21 - WHITE Mean girl antagonist; manipulative and vain; later humiliated. Sabrina is the story’s primary antagonist — a manipulative, beautiful, and socially dominant “mean girl” who bullies Lennon in high school and resurfaces later as a self-serving adult. She represents cruelty, vanity, and insecurity hiding beneath glamour. The role calls for strong presence and emotional range: comic timing for social cruelty, physicality in confrontation scenes, and nuance to keep her believable rather than cartoonish. One major humiliation sequence (food fight, public meltdown) requires controlled stunt-like blocking.
Storm
Main Supporting - Age: 18-25 - Open Ethnicity Drummer; outspoken loyal friend; comic and emotional support. Phoenix’s drummer and oldest friend, Storm balances humor with heart. Outspoken, loyal, and occasionally reckless, he’s both comic relief and emotional anchor for the band. In later episodes, Storm challenges Phoenix’s choices, delivering some of the most grounded moral moments. Needs good comedic rhythm and authenticity as a musician. No intimacy scenes; minor physical action (punch, scuffle).
Diane Gomez
A single LatinX mom that would do anything for her 20ish son. When younger she was a dancer and could charm anyone but has recently lost her confidence.
