Storyline
MOVING DAY
Set against the backdrop of Montreal’s unique July 1st tradition—when
thousands of residents move on the same day, MOVING DAY is a bold, female-
driven anthology film that captures the emotional chaos, comedy, and
transformation that change can bring. The film centers on Alana, a neurotic
woman of colour from Toronto who finds herself scrambling to find a new
apartment after being blindsided by a fraudulent landlord. Joined by her quirky
but compassionate classmate Bing, a sitcom-loving Syrian transplant, Alana.
races across the city in search of a place to call home before the day ends, and
the clock times out. As the day unfolds, Alana’s urgent quest for housing
intersects with the lives of five other women, forming a vibrant patchwork of
stories set in motion by this annual Montreal phenomenon.
BEAT THE CLOCK
During her Montreal moving day experience, Alana, a creative yet anxious
woman of color from Toronto, loses her apartment due to a shady landlord. She
teams up with her sitcom-loving Syrian classmate Bing and races across the city in
search of a place to call home, confronting a rotating door of rental disasters and
unknowingly becoming the thread that ties together five other women's stories of
change and resilience.
MILO
Julie, an 11-year-old Vietnamese-Quebecer grieving her father’s death, hatches a
plan to save Milo, her beloved Labrador, from a one-way trip to the SPCA. But as she
struggles with the idea of letting him go, Milo takes his fate into his own paws—when
a trip to the park becomes a means of escaping his fate.
ASSIMILATION
Sylvia, a Korean-Canadian, aims to move in with her hesitant boyfriend Charles, who
is reluctant to leave his wealthy family's estate. As tensions rise with his mother over
their decision to move, Sylvia discovers that their desire to keep the couple close is
more than just familial love, but a profound necessity for her Asian identity.
CUTTING THE CORD
Monica, a Lebanese mother, is struggling with her determined daughter Kim’s
decision to move out. When she tries to win over Kim's eclectic roommates with her
culture and cooking, the roommates, in turn, help mother and daughter reconcile
their differences and heal the wounds of their past.
ROSEMONT STANDOFF
Valentina, an elderly Ukrainian lady, barricades herself inside her home while a
young family and their movers impatiently wait outside. The mother’s (refugee)
compassion leads her to try to connect with the elderly lady through their shared
refugee past. Can one woman’s empathy comfort another in the face of change?
PLEASE NOTE: LOOKING FOR living in refugee/displaced person camps before relocating to Canada,

ADULTING
Sasha, a young trans woman, spends her first night alone in a new apartment in a
neighborhood marked by recent disappearances of women. Spooked by every
creak and shadow, she finds comfort in her roommate’s calm presence, until a
creeping sense of dread makes her wonder if the real danger is already inside.
