Storyline
Scam artists David and James think they’ve hit the jackpot when they infiltrate a local church to skim donations. However, their plan is threatened when the pastor, Philip, dies unexpectedly. Worried the church will lose donations without its charismatic leader, James formulates a scheme to fake Philip’s resurrection. Recruiting fellow conman Billy Bob to pose as Philip, they dupe the congregation and even Philip’s wife, Martha. While David has a change of heart and tries to end the scheme, James double crosses him and gets him ostracized. Just as James has seemed to have won, the police arrive, courtesy of a tip from David. In a last-ditch effort, Billy Bob tries to incite the crowd into a frenzy, only for him to accidentally kill himself in the chaos. As James is arrested, Martha reassures the congregation that “Philip” will rise again.
Roles
Role typeRoleGender & Age range
LeadJamesMale 25 - 30 Years old
Description
James originally came from a comfortable, upper-middle-class family with plenty of opportunities. He followed the “rules” of success (working hard, staying polite, doing what was expected) but discovered that conformity brought him little recognition or fulfillment. Bitterness grew in him, especially toward those who seemed to thrive under the same system that left him unsatisfied.

In his early adulthood, James adopted a new philosophy: life is only about winning or losing. He now measures his worth by control, manipulation, and his ability to outsmart others. He takes particular satisfaction in exploiting people who still believe in playing fair, seeing their trust as weakness. His driving objective is to prove his superiority by winning, yet his greatest obstacle is his own inability to stop himself; if winning is everything, then stopping when there is more to be had feels like losing.

Borderline psychopathic, James keeps anything genuine about himself deeply private while presenting a carefully constructed charade to the world. He treats relationships purely in transactional terms, seeing others either as pawns to be used or adversaries who stand in his way.

LeadDavidMale 28 - 33 Years old
Description
David grew up poor in a working-class community and came from a broken home. As a teenager, he got into trouble with the law and was sent to juvenile detention, an experience that convinced him his chances of climbing the socio-economic ladder were effectively over. Struggling to find meaningful employment, he turned to crime as a means of survival.

Originally dealing drugs to make ends meet, David had a close call with the police and saw several of his accomplices get caught and get handed lengthy prison sentences. Because of this, he switched over to con artistry where he believed there would be less attention from the cops. Starting small and working his way up to bigger marks, David now lives comfortably as a conman.

Despite being a liar and a thief, David views himself as a sort of modern-day Robin Hood, taking from the rich to give to himself. While he willingly ignores what he knows is right and wrong, he usually targets those who can afford the loss and avoids leaving his victims
irreparably harmed.

PrincipalMarthaFemale 38 - 43 Years old
Description
Martha came from a wealthy family that adhered to strong Christian values. Despite growing up wealthy, Martha’s parents did not and made sure their children didn’t take their situation for granted. Since Martha had a slightly sheltered childhood, her introduction to what was outside of her tight-knit community shocked her. To cope with the pressures of her life outside her community, Martha relied heavily on her faith to guide her.

While in college, Martha met Philip; despite Philip taking part in what Martha saw as sinful behaviour, the two dated and later married after college. After graduation, Martha set aside her career aspirations to be a teacher to help Philip achieve his dream of starting his own church.

Kind, generous and dutiful, Martha tries to see the best in every situation and in every person, even when they may not deserve it. She is also very prone to stress and anxiety, often relying on those around her and her faith for comfort.

Billy Bob grew up in a small, tight-knit community and peaked in high school as the most popular guy in school. However, after his first year of college, he failed all his classes, and eventually his parents cut off their financial support.

His objective is to be admired and feel important again, to prove to himself and others that he still has “it.” He lacks self-awareness and doesn’t realize that his charm and confidence mask poor judgment and make him easy to manipulate.

ActorPhilipMale 40 - 45 Years old
Description
Philip grew up as the eldest child in a traditional nuclear family that attended church every Sunday. In high school, Philip became a star football player, eventually earning a scholarship to college. At school, he threw himself into frat life and partied often. Around this time, he also met Martha, a young woman from a background much like his own, and the two began dating.

During his senior year, he experienced what he believed was a divine calling and abruptly quit the team right before the tournament to study theology. After graduating, Philip committed himself to starting a church. In pursuing this vision, he convinced Martha to give up her own career to help him build the ministry, a sacrifice he justified as part of their shared calling.

Philip is devoted, charismatic, and certain of his mission; however, he is also oblivious to the issues of others. Though he believes he is serving God and his community, there is a sense of self-interest in his actions as he tends to follow his own sense of purpose, even at the expense of those closest to him.

ActorCoronerAll 45 - 50 Years old
Description
A seasoned professional who has seen it all, the Coroner approaches their work with clinical detachment. Efficient, methodical, and slightly weary, they focus on the facts, not the emotions of the people around it. Their matter-of-fact demeanor can come off as cold, but it’s simply the armor of someone long accustomed to death.
Role typeRoleGender & Age range
ActorCop 1All 30 - 35 Years old
Description
A rigid, by the book officer who takes their authority far too seriously. There’s an overeagerness in their tone and a need to project importance, which undercuts their actual competence. The kind of cop who joined the force not to serve but to tell people that they have to respect his authority.
Role typeRoleGender & Age range
ActorCop 2All 30 - 35 Years old
Description
A laid-back officer who treats every stop like just another box to check. He expects everything to be routine and dull and approaches the job with casual boredom rather than intensity. He doesn’t see danger around every corner, which makes him slow to react when things don’t go according to script.
