Storyline
Based on a real story. Weldon has lived a rough life in small town Stanley, New Brunswick, where racism and homophobia are still the norm. As a child Weldon's brother was caught with another man and beaten badly and sent away by his father. A week after his abusive father's funeral, Weldon receives a call from a Toronto lawyer telling him that his long banished older brother, Perley, has been arrested for buggery and will go to jail for years unless a family member picks him up. If his father were still alive, Perley would never be allowed back into the family. Weldon gathers together the little money he has, 'borrows' his bosses truck for the weekend, and sets out to get Perley. After he gets Perley out of jail, the two set out on a road trip home that starts out with a lot of awkwardness and anger but slowly brings the brothers closer as friends. When an angry mob almost kills Perley for his sexuality, it finally truly shows Weldon what hate looks like. He saves Perley, and the two head for the last leg towards home entirely changed.
