Storyline
WOMB ENVY is a SITCOM written with Integrated Described Video. It will be very important that actors are word-perfect in their performances as the show will be the first scripted series in Canada utilizing IDV making it equally accessible to sighted, blind and partially-sighted audiences. The scripts have been written in using IDV to ensure comprehension whether and audience member is watching or listening to the show. (Kind of like a screen based webseries and radio play).
Short Synopsis/Logline - SITCOM
A burnt-out party boy has his queer city life turned upside down when his estranged small-town best friend shows up at his door, pregnant and desperate for him to pretend to be the father to satisfy her scarily religious mother.
A coming of age comedy about the length millennials will go to keep up appearances and start ‘adulting’ as thirty quickly approaches.
Theme: Second chances – Rekindling friendship in a new context.
Synopsis
Mark is stuck in a rut. Nearly 30 years old, he is wanting more than the tired beat of the Toronto gay dance floor and needs a purpose in his life other than vodka and a deteriorating septum. Mary is pregnant and desperate to escape the clutches of her religious zealot mother, Dorothy, and the small town that her and Mark grew up in. Showing up on Mark’s door one day after years of separation, she convinces him to pretend to be her baby daddy, since he was the only man her mother ever approved of, after reminding him of the years she spent being his “fake girlfriend” as a teen. They create rules to ensure the success of their half-baked idea, which splinters Mark’s fragile queer ego to create a drag queen apparition - The Divine - who constantly fights against this new assimilation to heteronormativity. Confusing things even more, Mark soon falls head over heels in love with their Lamaze instructor. Patrick, a visually impaired hunk, soon becomes an important part of his life, throwing a huge wrench in their charade for Dorothy. Internalizing the chaos in his life, Mark develops a rare condition known as couvade syndrome, bizarrely displaying pregnancy symptoms which become increasingly more difficult to hide. Everything in their lives quickly unravels, and soon Mark and Mary are forced to recognize what’s important in life, each other.
