Storyline
"Mongrels" is a portrait of an immigrant Korean family's trials and tribulations as they settle into their new life on the Canadian prairies. The narrative is told in three chapters: through the perspectives of Sonny (the father), Ha-joona (the son), and Hana (the daughter) as they each struggle to find reconciliation.

Description The volatile head of the Lee family, Ji-Hwan is hired to solve the town's wild dog infestation. A man that truly carries the fire of Korean 'Han,' he devoutly upholds his traditional Korean ideologies and beliefs, even if it means pushing away his children. He is aptly given the English name ‘Sonny’ to give off a brighter first impression, but he struggles to adapt and falls into a lonely madness. Must speak fluent Korean. Description Ha-Joon is the gentle son of the Lee family who shoulders big burdens and responsibilities. Despite having modest values compared to his father, he helps his father hunt the wild dogs in town. Even in his spare time he tries to be the caring mother figure for Hana. Joon is the most fluent English speaker in his family, and he is quickly accepted by those around him. His dreams of freedom fail when he inevitably realizes blood is thicker than water. Description Thoughtful and optimistic, Hana is the youngest daughter of the Lee family. She curiously explores the world around her with a naive perspective, yet to be tainted by reality. Which is why Hana is kept in the dark about her mother's passing, and spends her carefree days chasing airplanes to wish her home sooner. Once she finds the wild dog she grows fond of, dead, she decides to help them find peace once and for all. Must speak fluent Korean.
