The Canadian Film Centre (CFC) is a charitable organization that empowers Canadian talent and advances opportunities for them to thrive in the screen industry. We deliver intensive programs in film, television, screen acting, music, and digital/immersive media. POINT OF VIEW is a creative exercise that will see 5 scenes from our Writers' Lab realized twice by two different creative teams. Each scene will be shot over two half days in August and professionally finished by early September. Projects may be used on password-protected demo reels but are not intended for public distribution. This is a great opportunity to work with emerging Canadian talent in a collaborative environment!

Storyline
When Morgana, a responsible, tightly wound witch, catches her impulsive partner Beatrix sneaking yet another expensive, magical broom into the house, an ordinary argument about overspending escalates into a relationship showdown.
Roles
Role typeRoleGender & Age range
PrincipalMorganaAll 25 - 35 Years old
Description
Any gender, any ethnicity, 25-35. Type A personality. Morgana is a disciplined witch who approaches both magic and life with precision. She’s love to do the same for her budget, but her partner’s overspending prevents that. But Morgana’s frustration isn’t at the broom, it’s that she feels unheard while carrying the practical weight of their relationship. She wants to be the fun one sometimes too and wishes Beatrix could see that.

The actor should have strong comedic timing and be comfortable moving quickly between restraint, mounting frustration and emotional sincerity. Morgana shouldn’t feel like a humourless authority figure; her seriousness is what makes her funny.

Role typeRoleGender & Age range
PrincipalBeatrixAll 25 - 35 Years old
Description
Any gender, any ethnicity, 25-35. Type B personality. Bubbly and doe-eyed, Beatrix is the lose cannon of the pair. She’s the total opposite of Morgana; a free-spirited witch with a shopping addiction. She’s spontaneous, shameless and capable of defending any bad decision with total conviction and emotional bargaining.

Beatrix’s impulsiveness is real, but she cares deeply about Morgana and wouldn’t hurt her. She wants them both to enjoy the nicer things in life and share a little freedom, fun and escape from the pressure of their everyday lives.

The actor should possess strong physical-comedy instincts and be able to make Beatrix’s exaggerated behaviour feel spontaneous rather than calculated.
