Comments
Hollow Ones is a dark, atmospheric horror short set in a decaying farmhouse on the edge of endless fields. With shades of psychological terror and gothic surrealism, the film explores isolation, control, and the loss of innocence through unsettling family dynamics. The tone is claustrophobic, haunting, and visceral. Performances should emphasize both emotional truth and physical presence within a nightmarish world.
This horror short is a passion project being put together by a team of well seasoned filmmakers who have experience working directly on large productions for companies like Disney, Warner Brothers Entertainment, and others of a similar calibre. We are looking for cast members who are open to creative collaboration, and who are willing to work on a creatively fulfilling project that despite being operated with the upmost professionalism, is by nature a smaller production than what this team may be used to.

Storyline
A young child trapped in a decaying farmhouse endures the suffocating control of his deranged mother, all while being stalked by a sinister scarecrow who rules the surrounding fields. Tormented by Mother’s whispers of eternal confinement, and the scarecrow’s unblinking gaze the child turns to its terrifying presence in a desperate bid to reclaim power; using horror itself to strike back against their oppressor. Claustrophobic, haunting, and visceral, the film explores isolation, control, and the corruption of innocence within a nightmarish world.
Roles
Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
Lead | MOTHER | Female 25 - 75 Years old |
Description A witch-like matriarch whose presence is both unsettling and commanding. Mother’s affection is a performance - a carefully constructed mask hiding her true need for absolute control. To herself, she is a devoted protector; to her child, she is suffocating and terrifying. There’s a frigidness beneath her maternal gestures, like a spider patiently webbing up her family for consumption. Requires an actor who can embody contradictions: maternal on the surface, but with menace, obsession, and an ambiguous timelessness simmering underneath. Strong physical presence and ability to shift between calm dominance and eruptive intimidation essential.
Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
Lead | THE CHILD | All 8 - 15 Years old |
Description Androgynous, wide-eyed, and fragile in appearance, yet with a deep reservoir of resilience beneath the surface. The Child lives under Mother’s iron grip in a household defined by fear and control. Innocent but wildly perceptive, they navigate terror while quietly nurturing a survival instinct that grows in urgency as the nightmare deepens. Must be able to convey innocence and vulnerability, but also an evolving strength, culminating in a transformation from prey to predator. Comfort with emotionally intense scenes required.
Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
Supporting | FATHER | Male 25 - 75 Years old |
Description A hollow shell of a man, Father sits in a near-catatonic state - blank-eyed, broken, and almost corpse-like. Once human, now reduced to a puppet under Mother’s control, he is both tragic and horrifying. Performance will rely heavily on physical stillness, presence, and microexpressions - unsettling in their restraint. Actor should be comfortable with makeup/FX and playing a largely silent but highly atmospheric role. |
