Storyline
The Trial follows Eric, a small-town defense attorney, as he navigates his own morals when faced with his most difficult case yet: defending his estranged childhood best friend, Tony, in a breaking and entering case where all signs point to a guilty verdict. Buried in the feeling that he owes Tony after all the years he had his back, Eric must walk the fine line between his past and present, all while trying to avoid a conflict of interest.
Roles
Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
Lead | Eric | Male 30 - 40 Years old |
Description After Eric’s delinquent days as a teenager, he has turned his life around, now serving his community as a defence attorney. Now a highly-serious man, Eric’s integrity as a lawyer is what he lives by in all aspects of his life. When his childhood friend Tony is caught up in a breaking and entering case, Eric steps up to the plate to help the friend who once helped him get on the straight and narrow. Eric’s undying loyalty ends up being his greatest obstacle as Tony is not the man who he once was, thus pushing Eric into a decision between holding onto what he once knew or accepting what the present holds.
Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
Lead | Tony | Male 30 - 40 Years old |
Description Virtually unrecognizable from the caring boy he once was, Tony is a struggling alcoholic on trial for breaking and entering his employer’s home after his termination. He turns to defence attorney Eric, his childhood best friend and the only person who still has a shred of love for him in hopes to acquit. Knowing the pivotal role he played in Eric’s life, Tony guilt trips him into sticking with the case. Tony is caught in limbo, not wanting to face time for his actions, yet sitting down and demanding others do all of the work for him.
Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
Principal | Prosecutor | Male 35 - 50 Years old |
Description The Prosecutor is a highly successful lawyer willing to pull out all-the-stops to strap the defence with the maximum punishment. Often coming off as arrogant and slimy, The Prosecutor is willing to push the judicial process in order to get the outcomes he wants. Despite his unorthodox practices, The Prosecutor still holds great reverence towards the system and will never cross the line into shady behavior. He always shoots for his best possible outcome, while taking no shortcuts to get there.

Principal | Melissa | Female 30 - 40 Years old |
Description Melissa is a steadfast yet loving woman. She is the wife of Eric and often serves as an anchor in his life. Although Eric is highly analytical with his job as a defence attorney, Melissa is always the first person to call out the problems in Eric’s life that have slipped through the cracks of his lawyer life and have invaded his personal life. Melissa’s security in life is what she wants Eric to have, so she always pushes him to be greater, even if it is not what he wants to hear.
Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
Principal | Young Eric | Male 18 - 20 Years old |
Description Young Eric is a young, chauvinistic man more focused on his next impulse than his future at large. Not receiving attention in any capacity from anyone in his life has set him up on a bad path, but when his only friend Tony expresses his disappointment in the way his life is heading, Eric pivots, doing a 180 to try and be the best man he can be.

Principal | Young Tony | Male 18 - 20 Years old |
Description Young Tony is a delinquent with a heart of gold. He is a typical sixteen-year old boy, spending his days playing hockey with his best friend Eric. Seeing that Eric’s care-free behavior is what will send him down a bad path, Tony expresses his frustration with his friend that he knows can do so much better. Beneath his tough exterior, Tony is one that cares deeply for those close to him.
Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
Actor | Judge | Female 35 - 50 Years old |
Description The Judge is an experienced member of the judicial system, which has bestowed her a lack of patience for any shenanigans. Strict, poignant, professional, but most importantly, fair. Her care for the system is deeply ingrained in her as she delivers the same care and passion to any case, whether it be big or small. |
