We can accept union and non-union actors through our student agreement with ACTRA. This
is a non-paying student film and no permit is required. Actors will receive a copy of the
finished film for their demo reel.

Storyline

Between the Silence and the Noise is a 10-min student short film that follows Julia, a young Lebanese-Canadian journalism student who lives with and cares for her reserved grandfather, Antoine. When a class presentation on the Lebanese Civil War prompts her to question her family history, Julia begins to dig into her past - and uncovers a shocking family secret.

Description Julia is a Lebanese-Canadian university student studying journalism. Though shy in demeanor, she is stubborn and has an insatiable curiosity. She lives with her grandfather, whom she takes care of in the wake of his wife’s passing. Her amicable yet distant relationship with him is tested when a sudden revelation about her family’s past pushes Julia to begin asking questions about her family’s past, challenging her understanding of herself and her roots. Meals and beverages will be provided on the shoot days.

Principal	Antoine Boulos	Male 65 - 78 Years old
Description Must be fluent in Lebanese Arabic, as all of the dialogue is in Arabic. Antoine is a 71 year-old Lebanese man. Behind his prickly demeanour and abrasive language, lies a thoughtful and humorous personality. However, with his deteriorating health, the passing of his wife and the on-going destruction of his homeland, he has become withdrawn. His granddaughter’s newfound curiosity about their family history is like salting old wounds, pushing him to contend with his past and altering their relationship forever.

Description Julia’s Canadian university professor, he is passionate about his line of work and eager to pass on his knowledge to the younger generation. Though proud of the reporting he has done in his youth, his time reporting on the Lebanese Civil War has remained a thorn in his side. When Julia questions him about the interpreter he worked with, he is avoidant of the conversation and dismissive towards her.
