MARTHA
White. Rachel’s wealthy mother, probably wears pearls. Very creepy, racist but doesn’t know it. Overly nice. Looks like Diane Keaton, but personality wise, feels like Missy Armitage from Get Out.
MR./MRS. FEINSTEIN
All ethnicities. A slightly awkward English teacher. Great comedic timing needed. Maybe a bit of a hippie. Miss Grotke from Recess is a good starting point, but this teacher is a little more crusty and dusty.
DAN
All ethnicities. Inspired by real sit-com actors in the 90s/early 2000s. A little hammy, conventionally good-looking. Must also be able to tap into a horror space. Think David Schwimmer in Friends.
SARAH
All ethnicities. Inspired by real sit-com actors in the 90s/early 2000s. A little hammy, conventionally good-looking. Must also be able to tap into a horror space. Think Jennifer Aniston in Friends.
PERSIAN WOMAN
Iranian. Must be able to speak Farsi. A nice singing voice/ability to hum beautifully is an asset. Yasamin’s mom, very caring and gentle. Appears often in her daughter’s dreams.
Michelle
Devoted, anxious, and traditional; Michelle struggles to unify her family in the eyes of god and overcome a sense of failure as a mother.
Ezekiel (Zeke)
Independent, detached, and strong-willed; Zeke argues for his views on faith and family with his mother while attempting to console her.
Ian
Sanctimonious, reserved and prudent; Ian is a faithful pastor with a passive sense of betray for his son Zeke.
Sorority Sister
Must be a REAL current or former Sorority sister
Fraternity Brother
Must be a REAL current or former Fraternity Brother
Univeristy Students
If you have ever been in sorority or fraternity, please apply to the other roles.
Voice Over
Young Oliver
A young man who, while he had his own life to live, is now the sole guardian of his nephew. His obligation to his brother made taking the boy a must, not a choice. SOC
Young Winston's Father
A man raised by and in the streets now finds himself a father unequipped with the tools to do the job. With his freedom on the line and no other options, he leaves his only son with his brother. SOC
Young Winston
Young Winston is a young Jamaican boy who recently moved to Toronto with his parents. He witnesses the comings and goings of his lawless parents, who eventually send him to live with his uncle. SOC
Dirk
Dirk is the star of the internationally famous superhero film series “Thunder-Fist”. he is a strong, confident, and chivalrous hero, but when discovering that the newest installment in his franchise is set to fail, his more selfish and naïve instincts take over. Dirk has lost sight of what brought him to acting in the first place: the simple joy of art. Without that drive, he has become a hollow shell, seeking nothing but to maintain his reputation and career. He’s not malicious, but he’s brash and naïve, which leads him into conflict. Dirk desires something more from his career – but he’s having trouble finding it.
Albert
Writer of the Thunder-Fist comic. Seeing little return from the massive financial success of the Thunder-Fist franchise, Albert has grown insular, retreating to his home. There, he works on his own personal writing projects, he’s not in it for the money – he’s in it for the joy of writing. Albert is an aloof and blunt man. Yet, despite his estrangement from his most famous work, he’s not bitter. He’s made amends with that part of his life.
Andrew
VOICE ONLY ROLE. Dirk’s long-suffering talent agent. Although we never see him onscreen, we can hear the tired notes that permeate his voice. He seeks to temper Dirk’s most eccentric and rash ideas, but he often lacks the fortitude to mount a resistance. He’s been in this industry a long time, and he’s worn out.
Sam
Sam is Albert’s grandchild. He’s just about Thunder-Fist’s biggest fan, and when Dirk comes to visit, he can barely believe his eyes. He’s excitable, charming, and outgoing.
The Burglar
The classic superhero crook. He’s well-muscled and moves nimbly from shadow to shadow. This guy is dangerous, irascible, and sharp witted. All that goes out the window, however, when Thunder-Fist catches him in the act.
