CARY
Cary has been in a string of failed relationships over the years, and finds himself in a job he hates, with a longtime girlfriend he won’t marry, and a quickly diminishing circle of friends. Despite all of this, Cary laughs these troubles off instead of crying. He’s not mature enough to talk about his feelings and instead acts impulsively to regain the control he thinks he’s lost over his life; one he feels should be a long adventure. When he learns his childhood friend Rick is dying of cancer, Cary realizes how alone he will feel and decides to fake his own death in order to start over. Cary’s arc starts as an unhappy rascal desperate for some life direction and transform into a new man who has realized a greater truth about himself. A wayward man who can’t commit to anything. Production covers travel/accommodation from Los Angeles for this role. LEAD, 6 Days (Role requires on-screen driving. Talent must have a valid driver license.)
RICK
Rick grew up poor and found comfort in being a rascal with his friends – staying out late, chasing women, drinking, and generally seeing themselves as heroic cowboy figures, all the while actually running from what was good for them. Over the years, despite his best effort, he has become more mature. He has his own small business, a wife and a 7-year old son. He recently surrendered his battle with lung cancer and will die within the year. This abrupt change has given him a broader perspective and, while he admonishes his freewheeling friends and tries to guide them before it is too late, part of him is happy to see them still running free. When his friend Cary comes to him with news of his plan to fake his own death for one last chance to start over, Rick must be honest and try to set Cary straight. Said he would never grow up and did his best to fight off maturity. Production covers travel/accommodation from Los Angeles for this role. SUPPORTING, 4 Days
SHANNON
Shannon laughs about things in public that she complains about behind the scenes. She thinks of herself as an easy going person who pretends not to care as deeply as she does, feeling the need to be the host of all social gatherings, bringing people into the conversation and taking care of everybody. She’s an extrovert, but is afraid she is ultimately undeserving of the love and generosity she so effortlessly extends to others. She is embarrassed by the lack of progress in her relationship, but doesn’t want to acknowledge that her older boyfriend Cary is pulling away from her. Optimistic but with deep insecurities. Cary’s girlfriend. Production covers travel/accommodation from Los Angeles for this role. SUPPORTING, 3 Days
