A caring and well-meaning parent who deeply loves her child but struggles to bridge the gap in their relationship. Though sometimes unaware of the disconnect, she is not intentionally hurtful and genuinely wants what’s best for Spencer. Early 20’s, passionate about his hometown. Blue collar, Luke works to support his father who struggles with early on-set dementia. He longs for a great love, and wears his heart on his sleeve. He is a hopeless romantic.

Drunk man’s role in this film is Fate. He brings our two love interests together. He can be any age upwards of 30. Should be enthusiastic and good at playing drunk, but coherent and thoughtful. **May be double cast as Luke’s Father. Back of head, and possible shouts for help from other room**

Character Description: John is a dedicated and warm-hearted father who works full-time as a Graphic Designer. Though he’s not particularly skilled at building things, he enjoys the process of creating and fixing, often involving his child in his projects. Growing up, hockey was a big part of John’s life, and it’s a joy for him to see his child now playing the sport. He cherishes the quiet moments at the rink, whether it’s sipping on a subpar coffee from the canteen, carrying gear to the van, or exchanging small talk with other parents. Above all, John lives for the thrill of watching his child play, supporting them wholeheartedly regardless of the outcome. He embodies a steadfast and encouraging presence in the family.

Jane is a compassionate and creative mother who works for a non-profit organization. Outside of her professional life, she has a passion for crafting, especially candle-making. Her hobby has evolved into a small entrepreneurial venture, with booths at local markets showcasing her handmade wares. This is a shared experience with her child, who often helps her set up the booth and enjoys the creative process alongside her. Jane’s nurturing personality shines through in her ability to connect with her family through these artistic endeavors, always fostering an environment of curiosity and expression.

E is a lively and multifaceted child who loves playing hockey and spending time with friends. They deeply appreciate their dad’s unwavering support at every game, finding comfort and pride in his presence. E also shares a love for crafting with their mom and enjoys painting and making things. They’re a fan of fantastical, adventurous books, and their favorite color combination is blue and purple. Among their treasured possessions is a stuffed Peter Rabbit, a symbol of their youthful spirit. E has a unique sense of humor that makes them the family comedian, always ready to lighten the mood. However, they can be shy at first but, once comfortable, transform into an energetic, attention-grabbing presence. E’s empathy runs deep, as they are acutely aware of the challenges their family faces, and they carry a quiet sense of responsibility for maintaining harmony.

The sibling (to be developed further) adds another layer to the family’s dynamic, contributing their own quirks and personality to the warm and lively household.

Thomas is the film's lead. He's a 17-year-old student at Pembrooke Academy, an all-boys boarding school. Bookish and soft-spoken, he has a fascination with birds, and a penchant for his mind to wander and similarly float through the clouds. In the story, he encounters Dickie, an older student at his academy, and develops an intense longing. He has a yearning, but unspoken love for Dickie. As their friendship blossoms, they come ever so close to admitting their feelings to each other and actualizing their mutual desire. However, when Dickie suddenly leaves, like a bird of prey, he tears apart Thomas' heart. Which leaves him to crash back down to earth. Thomas is a rich character who experiences a deep range of emotions over the duration of the film, and so will be a challenging and fulfilling role. Please note this character has a scene in which they smoke on camera (prop cigarettes will be used).

The co-lead and main romantic interest of the lead character Thomas. He's a 17/18-year-old student at Pembrooke Academy, an all-boys boarding school. He's intelligent and charming and has an enrapturing aura that draws in the protagonist and the audience. However, this exterior hides the melting pot beneath the surface. Where his severe religious and familial trauma tugged at his very being and caused his self-destructive behavior. In the story, Dickie has a chance encounter with Thomas, and from there the two quickly become closer, as an unspoken feeling seems to pull them together. Unbeknownst to Thomas, Dickie develops a similar fascination with him as he has for Dickie, pining after him in every moment they're together. Both boys find a sense of escape in each other. However, Dickie's trauma and the outside factors of his life make him to be overt with his feelings. Eventually, miscommunication leads Thomas to turn his back on Dickie, who is left to pick up the pieces of his life and leave. Dickie is a very emotionally complex character, it's a challenging role, and in the right hands will be a defining part.
