Arthur
Arthur, Sophie’s dad (any ethnicity) is a compulsive gardener and family man who lives for his wife and daughter. Due to his passing, he only exists in relation to Sophie through her lens and perspective as she looks back on her memories of him. He is fundamentally kind-hearted and always willing to support his family as best he can, however due to the amount of attention he puts into his gardening he can be disconnected from those around him.
Bess
Bess (any ethnicity) is a kind, capable and no-nonsense barista. She is used to her café’s quirky and often emotional clientele, as well as the vague scent of mysticism that surrounds the establishment. Bess is confident in herself and does not need a romantic relationship – but is open to one, should it walk right up to her front door. In her past she has dealt with losing loved ones and has done a lot of self growth since, however the negative feelings from those dark times in her life occasionally bubble up and drag her down.
Ambrose
Ambrose (any ethnicity) is a content but occasionally lonely elder. Their quirks may come across to some as them losing cognitive capacity, but in reality, there’s a twinkling awareness lingering beneath the surface. Ambrose copes with their solitude by regularly visiting their favorite, mystical café to relive treasured memories with their late dog Bailey. They live alone and navigate a fast paced world by partaking in the simple pleasures of life.
ON-SCREEN NARRATOR
White. Highly intelligent and well-educated. Wears a suit or turtleneck. Commanding, atypical, stern yet charismatic. Possesses a hypnotic, deliberate delivery, blending existential dread with dry humour. Accents encouraged. References: Werner Herzog, Christopher Walken, Jeff Goldblum. Note: Talent with a background in theatre or sketch comedy is a plus.
PATRICK
EMMA'S FATHER. 50+, wearing cold-toned suits or professional attire, often with a tie and sometimes leaning on a cane, smoking. His tone is deep and stern. Emma’s biological father, has became distant from Emma to conceal the truth about his illegitimate daughter, Rachel. To maintain the family’s vanity, he sends the young Emma to a Foster family.
VERONICA
EMMA'S MOTHER. 50+. She enjoys wearing expensive dresses or suits, often accessorized with diamond necklaces. Her appearance is meticulously maintained, and she carries herself with arrogance. Emma’s biological mother, driven by a strong sense of vanity and concern for family reputation, sent Emma to the Foster family.
MICHEAL
Emma’s Foster Father. 50+. Enjoys a life of luxury with his wife and family.
GRACE
Emma’s Foster Mother. 50+. Gentle and delicate, she has a graceful, composed appearance and a calm demeanour.
PRINCIPAL
The authoritative school leader who announces the shocking revelation that Emma, not Rachel, was accepted into Harvard.
SOPHIA
Emma’s supportive and enthusiastic friend, who admires her work and celebrates her success at the jewelry gala.
DOCTOR
A composed and professional medical expert who treats Veronica and delivers important medical updates to the Walker family.
LUCAS
A charming and expressive friend of Emma’s, impressed by her rise in the design world.
LILY
The trusted house assistant of the Walker family. She is loyal and attentive, always ensuring things run smoothly while observing the family dynamics.
