Verlaine
BIPOC. Verlaine is an astute, no-nonsense scientist and academic. She’s pragmatic and direct. After Audrey loses her father Walter (Verlaine's colleague and confidante), we see that Verlaine has a softer, parental side. NOTE: We ask that you please use your own accent.
Raymond
Raymond is a young man scraping by in life, his once promising future clouded in depression and apathy. Working a janitorial job he hates, he fantasizes about other futures he might have lived while lamenting his missed potential, all the while being too frozen to leave his hometown. When Joey shows up on his doorstep, he finds himself slipping back into old and dangerous habits with his charismatic but unpredictable friend. As Joey tries to convince him that the world owes them what they lost, Raymond finds himself forced to decide between revenge and redemption. Will he choose to be loyal to Joey, or take the path he knows is right?
Joey
Joey grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and rebelled his way through high-school with Raymond as his wingman, until the day the law caught up with him. Now, after a longer prison sentence than he deserved, he feels wronged by the world and wears the chip on his shoulder like a badge of honor. Fresh out of prison, he crashes back into Raymond’s life, expecting they can pick up where they left off. With a mix of charisma and pride he tries to convince Raymond that they have both been wronged by the world. As they drift into old destructive habits, he begins to pull Raymond into a fruitless and misguided plan of revenge. Will he be able to convince Raymond to come along for the ride, or will Raymond keep him from sabotaging himself?
Heidi
Heidi is a young woman chasing her dreams, and is one of the few high school friends Raymond regrets losing touch with after the tragic loss he experienced in his senior year. She’s a good person at heart but no pushover, and represents everything that Raymond still wants in life but is afraid to admit. When they meet again by chance, Raymond is at his lowest, and Heidi feels a strong sense of guilt for not being there for him when he needed it most. As she tries to make it up to him, is she really trying to help, or simply soothing her own conscience? Will she be able to help Raymond see his potential, or drive him away with her unwelcome sympathy?
Manager
Raymond’s manager for his janitorial job at the high school. He can be stubborn and acts hard on Raymond for his flippant attitude at work. As one of the only older adult figures with a constant place in Raymond’s life, the manager wants to push him to succeed, but doesn’t bend over backwards for him.
Marcel- The Mime
Marcel the mime, is reserved, quiet, and clearly out of place amongst his clown co-workers. As he reluctantly pretends to get along at work, he really wants nothing more than to clock out, and go home to watch his favorite silent movies and dream of a life where he doesn’t feel so out of place. When he meets Clara, his work -life is turned upside down and he tries even harder to fit in, in a half-hearted attempt to lighten up and connect with her. But as he begins to lose his sense of self for her sake, he’s ultimately faced with the man who stares back at him in the mirror. Can he be happy staying true to himself? Special Note: In public, Marcel is mime, yet behind the clownish exterior is an emotionally truthful three-dimensional character. As such, and depending on the scene, the actor must be comfortable performing classic pantomime yet also the delivery of the emotional honesty that will reveal the man behind the makeup. Please note: as a Mime, Marcel has no dialogue, however he is the lead of the film and is in every scene. Note: Makeup will be applied to the actor. Please mention if you have allergies.
Clara
Clara is a mix of quirky, sarcastic, and even flirtatious, and she’s a breath of fresh air as the new-hire in an office of stale jokes. As a no pushover social jack-of-all-trades she can just as easily laugh with the clowns, excel for her supervisor, and befriend the office wallflower Marcel. It’s like she’s in on the bad joke, as she brings Marcel out of his shell while “playing the part” with the clowns. But will the kindness she shows Marcel result in a misinterpretation of emotions? Will she figure out how to let him down easy in time to save their newly forming friendship? Note: Makeup will be applied to the actor. Please mention if you have allergies.
Supervisor
The supervisor is exacerbated, brash, with a hint of charisma that is a little past it’s due date. He’s reluctantly in charge an of an office of clowns who never seem to get the work done well or on time. Marcel is the one employee he reluctantly puts his faith in, that is until Clara starts to shake things up. Will she fall for his status, or see him as just another clown in the show? Note: Makeup will be applied to the actor. Please mention if you have allergies.
Chuckles
Chuckles the clown is profoundly unfunny. He never tires of trying out his bad jokes o anyone who’ll listen, and then explaining them in excruciating detail when doesn’t get the laugh he anticipates. His toughest critic is the quiet Marcel, no matter how many jokes he tries. He’s the Obnoxious, loud and headache inducing co-worker Marcel wants absolutely nothing to do with. Note: Makeup will be applied to the actor. Please mention if you have allergies.
Snakes
Snakes is the annoying and relentless office prankster, who loves fooling his coworkers, especially the gullible Marcel, who seems to fall for his bad jokes day in and day out. Little does he know that Marcel is just playing along in an effort to get Snakes to leave him alone. Completely oblivious to the fact that no one except another bad clown could ever find his stale pranks remotely amusing. Note: Makeup will be applied to the actor. Please mention if you have allergies.
