Storyline
At her fathers funeral, a young woman decides whether to confront a painful truth or bury it with him.
Roles
| Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
| Lead | Noor | Female 18 - 23 Years old |
Description CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONA 23-year-old woman, a walking contradiction, both guarded and expressive, formed by the tension between wanting to tell the truth and fearing the consequences of doing so. She is deeply introspective, caught between love and resentment, and has never truly been allowed to exist just as a daughter. STORY FUNCTION Noor functions as the threshold of the story. She is the character whose choice ultimately drives the narrative forward. She must decide whether to share her painful truth in front of family members who were either unaware of or ignorant of her father’s past, or to remain silent and allow the lie surrounding him to continue in order to preserve the fragile peace within her family. KEY RELATIONSHIPS Lydia: Noor has a complicated relationship with Lydia, her stepmother, and resents her. Noor believes that Lydia may have known about the abuse and failed to protect her. This creates deep betrayal and anger toward her mother. Almani: Noor loves Almani like a younger sister. Although Almani is her stepsister, Noor has always seen herself as her big sister and has felt a strong instinct to protect her. Noor does not resent Almani for having a different experience from her; instead, she has always been afraid that Almani might one day experience the same abuse she did. Her protectiveness comes from love, but also from fear and a desire to keep Almani from suffering as she did. Daryl: Noor's relationship with Daryl is deeply conflicted. She both loves and resents him. Daryl was not entirely defined by his abuse, and Noor still holds fond memories of him and the relationship they once shared. At the same time, she carries significant anger and pain because of the abuse he inflicted on her. Her feelings toward him are therefore not simply hatred—they are a complicated combination of love, grief, anger, betrayal, and resentment. THE ROLE INVOLVES: - Grief and mourning - Emotional vulnerability - Anger and resentment - Confronting childhood trauma and abuse - Internal conflict - Crying/emotional breakdowns - Portraying complicated familial love - Emotional repression and release - Sensitive material involving abuse SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Dark brown to black hair, long to medium length If hair is not this colour, would be willing to dye it Preferably brown eyes, but other eye colours will be considered

| Principal | Lydia Flynn | Female 40 - 55 Years old |
Description CHARACTER DESCRIPTION55-year-old “widow”, or what she likes to call herself, claiming the title as proof of her devotion. Lydia values stability and appearances, often choosing silence over confrontation. There is a quiet sense that she understands more than she admits but maintains control by refusing to disrupt the narrative. STORY FUNCTION Lydia functions as a representation of silence and complicity within the family. KEY RELATIONSHIPS Daryl: Lydia loved Daryl. He took her and her daughter in when they needed it most, despite having very little himself, and made it his mission to provide for them. Because of this, Lydia feels deep gratitude and obligation toward him. When she witnesses unpleasant or concerning interactions between Daryl and Noor, she struggles to confront what she is seeing and instead chooses to look the other way. Her loyalty to Daryl and dependence on the stability he provides ultimately contribute to her silence. Noor: Lydia cares for Noor, but their relationship is complicated by Lydia's guilt. She treats Noor differently from her biological daughter, Almani, keeping an emotional distance that Noor can feel. Lydia's coldness doesn't come from a lack of love; rather, Noor reminds her of what she witnessed between her and Daryl, forcing Lydia to confront the reality she’s spent years avoiding. Almani: Almani is Lydia’s first and only biological child. Lydia will do anything to protect her baby, even if it means sacrificing someone else. Her unwavering devotion to Almani is both her greatest strength and her greatest flaw, as it allows her to justify the choices she makes to preserve her daughter’s stability. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS Strong naturalistic performance with the ability to portray subtle guilt, emotional restraint, and internal conflict. Must convincingly contrast Lydia's warmth toward Almani with her guardedness toward Noor, while allowing her love for Daryl and discomfort with his behaviour to coexist beneath the surface.

| Principal | Funeral Officiant | All 30 - 65 Years old |
Description CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONA compassionate, composed funeral officiant accustomed to guiding families through moments of grief. They present Daryl as a loving, respected family man, reflecting the version of him the family publicly remembers. Their words are sincere and comforting, but unknowingly conflict with Noor’s private understanding of her father. STORY FUNCTION The funeral officiant functions as the voice of the public memory of Daryl PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS Ability to deliver funeral remarks with sincerity, composure, and emotional restraint. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Clear and confident speaking voice and strong diction. Ability to deliver memorised dialogue naturally in a formal setting. Comfortable performing in a church/funeral environment and interacting naturally with a grieving family and mourners. No specific accent or physical requirements.
| Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
| Principal | Almani | Female 8 - 12 Years old |
Description CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONA 12-year-old girl, open, sincere, and unguarded, moves through the world with innocence and trust, showcasing her naivety. She shares a genuine bond with her stepsister, Noor, embodying the family and childhood Noor never had. STORY FUNCTION Almani functions as the child left unscathed by the family's darker reality. She has been sheltered from the truth of the family dynamic and has only experienced Daryl as the loving father figure he presents himself to be. Because of this, Almani holds an idealized view of her family and believes in the stability and love that Noor knows is not entirely real. Her presence highlights the divide between the family Noor experienced and the family Almani believes she has. KEY RELATIONSHIPS Lydia: Almani’s first and only daughter. She is deeply attached to her mother, and some might even describe her as a “mama’s girl.” Lydia is her primary source of comfort and security, and Almani trusts her implicitly. Daryl: Almani sees Daryl as her father. He has been nothing but supportive and loving toward her and her mother, and she is deeply grateful for everything he has provided for them. To Almani, Daryl represents the kind of father she believes everyone should have. Noor: Almani loves Noor and looks up to her, hoping that one day she can be like her. Although Noor is often distant and withdrawn in her interactions with the world around her, she has always been kind and loving toward Almani. Almani doesn't fully understand what weighs on Noor, but she knows Noor cares for her and sees her as someone she can look up to. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS Ability to portray warmth, innocence, and genuine emotional openness while maintaining a grounded, naturalistic performance. The actor should create believable chemistry with Daryl, Lydia, and Noor, particularly conveying Almani's trust in Daryl, attachment to Lydia, and admiration for Noor. Must be able to portray moments of confusion or uncertainty subtly, as Almani is largely unaware of the deeper family conflict surrounding her.
| Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
| Actor | Daryl | Male 40 - 50 Years old |
Description CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONA man remembered by most as warm, charismatic, and deeply devoted to his family, yet he carries a darker reality known only to his oldest daughter, Noor. Although he is charming and familiar on the surface, he is complicated beneath it, capable of genuine affection while causing profound harm. STORY FUNCTION Daryl’s absence anchors the centre of the story. He isn’t the protagonist, but he is the reason the protagonist has a choice to make. KEY RELATIONSHIPS Noor: Daryl’s relationship to Noor, to say the least, is complicated. Because Noor is his eldest and only child, he took a lot of his aggression out on her. Despite this, their relationship wasn't defined solely by cruelty; Daryl could also show love and affection, creating a complicated bond that left Noor struggling to reconcile the father she loved with the person who hurt her. Lydia: Daryl was deeply in love with Lydia and became a father figure to her daughter, Almani. He took them both in when he was still struggling from his own divorce, but made it his mission to provide for both of them. Lydia has seen glimpses of Daryl's aggressive, complicated side, especially with Noor, but she chooses to turn a blind eye for her own stability and her daughter's. Almani: When Almani came into Daryl’s life, he took her in as his own. Unlike his relationship with Noor, Daryl never shows Almani his aggressive side. He treats her with tenderness, patience, and care, becoming the loving father figure she knows him to be. In many ways, Almani feels like a second chance for Daryl—a chance to be the father he was never able to be for Noor. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS - Ability to portray warmth and affection convincingly - Ability to communicate subtle shifts in behaviour - Ability to portray duality and contradiction - Comfortable with restrained, naturalistic acting - Ability to create unease without becoming overtly threatening - Ability to portray genuine familial affection toward both Noor and Almani - Strong emotional control and subtlety - Ability to convey meaning through body language, silence, and facial expressions SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - strong improvisational skills - comfortable working with intimate/emotionally difficult material - ability to take direction and adjustments - establish believable father and daughter chemistry - experience with naturalistic film acting
