Description
18 to 22 years old, open ethnicity woman. The senior class president and daughter of the town pastor, Sam is an overachieving girl-next-door secretly grappling with the realization that she is a lesbian. She has had her future planned out for her since birth, and is afraid to do anything that strays from the path she has been taught to want and the high expectations placed on her that, up until now, she has met. This has left her feeling like a passenger in her own life, until she meets Renee, who finally dares her to dream outside of the small town that is the only home she has ever known. Her religious upbringing weighs on her everyday, especially as she begins to explore her relationship with Renee, something she knows her parents would not approve of. Sam goes through an internal battle of trying to accept her queer identity, while also not being eager to give up the social status she benefits from that would be taken away by any association with Renee. Must be comfortable with intimacy involving another woman. LGBTQ+ actors are strongly encouraged to submit. (LEAD)

Description
18 to 22 years old, open ethnicity woman. New to town and as unapologetically queer as possible for a teenager in 1977, Renee is a rebellious, nonconforming punk rocker with big city dreams. With a natural charisma to her, she guards her emotions from the world behind a hardened exterior, only revealing her true self to a select few, which eventually includes Sam. Her tomboyish presence seems to threaten the townspeople who fear what is unfamiliar to them, a hostile welcome that Renee plays off as no big deal. In reality she has never felt more alone, with no support system in Sweetwater to turn to. Though she is snarky and walled off around most of the people in town, her conversations with Sam bring out her playful side. Must be comfortable with intimacy involving another woman. LGBTQ+ actors are strongly encouraged to submit. (LEAD)
