Storyline
Wrong Side of the Court is a feature film adaptation of HN Khan’s celebrated novel about a young man and his friends growing up in Regent Park and dreaming of more. Fawad Chaudhry is a sweet, quiet young man who keeps his head down when he’s out in his notoriously tough neighborhood to avoid drawing the attention of his nemesis, the local bully Omar. At home he stays quiet about his mother’s plans for his future, which include a marriage to his cousin in Pakistan. The only place Fawad really feels free is on the basketball court, and with his two best friends, Yousuf and Omar. When Yousuf’s older brother is murdered in front of his home, Fawad is overcome with grief about his own father’s recent death and discovers the strength to be seen and heard as himself. He finds the grit to stand up to Omar on the basketball court and the courage to challenge his mother’s dreams of an arranged marriage for him.

WSOTC is a tender portrait of young men on the cusp of adulthood and the vibrant, sometimes violent community they live in. Directed by Ari Gunnarsson, produced by Eurasia Motion Pictures Inc. with support from Telefilm Canada, distributed by Sherry Media Group https://theimpactseries.net/ and executive produced by Sturla Gunnarsson.
