The CBC Actors Conservatory is recognized industry-wide as a vital hub for spotting and supporting exciting and original onscreen talent. This full-time, creative and professional experience has launched close to 100 actors since it began and allows actors to expand their skills while empowering them to navigate career and marketplace opportunities. The "Close Ups" are original character driven pieces that allow actors to showcase and explore dramatic scenes and characters that excite them.

Award-winning actor and creator Rebekah Miskin is the recipient of The ROCKIE for Emerging Talent at The Banff World Media Festival Rockie Awards! You can catch her as WENDY in several episodes of the FX/HULU series, NINE FILMS ABOUT TECHNOLOGY. In addition, Rebekah created the web series, NIGHT OWL which had its World Premiere at SXSW to stellar reviews & sold out screenings. Indiewire said of NIGHT OWL “The Best Independent TV Series at SXSW — Memo to Distributors”. The Globe & Mail’s John Doyle said: “NIGHT OWL has the layered richness of long-form storytelling in its brief, considered response to life. We’re talking more heft than TikTok and more substantial than whatever Quibi was doing. Night Owl is a beauty of a little series, an exquisite study of a small slice of life, loneliness and social awkwardness. It’s super funny, too. Night Owl is one of those jewels that leaves you smitten with all the characters. Nothing unfolds quite as you’d expect in this charming but meaningful piece of whimsy.” Rebekah also won the Alan Sawyer Award for Excellence in Media for her work on NIGHT OWL. Previously, RM was awarded Bell Media’s grant for CHECKING OUT, a short she wrote, directed & acted in. She received her Masters in Media Production from TMU [fka Ryerson University] on full Scholarship, and NETFLIX chose Rebekah for the Netflix Diverse Voices Fellowship at The Banff World Media Festival. Catch Rebekah in KIM’S CONVENIENCE, on Netflix/CBC, starring in ART & LIFE on CBC Gem, which won the CBC short film challenge and BEST SHORT at Toronto Lift-Off Film Fest, and her writing in the upcoming season of DOOMLANDS- coming out on ROKU in 2024. Most recently, Rebekah portrayed the role of MOLLY in the upcoming feature film RACEWALKERS, a sports comedy premiering in 2024!
Storyline
EVA takes her first private boxing lesson with instructor, JAKE and learns there’s a whole lot more to boxing than she bargained for, as the act of boxing itself unearths some unexpected and uncomfortable emotions.
Roles
Role typeRoleGender & Age range
LeadJAKEMale 35 - 39 Years old
Description
Male, mid-late 30s, any ethnicity. Jake is a Boxing Coach, who is instructing EVA, in her very first private boxing lesson. Despite the fact that he looks about as tough and intimidating as a boxer could look, Jake is a really nice and gentle guy underneath his tough exterior... Outside of the boxing ring, at least. Not the type to get easily flapped, he’s patient and calm with Eva... For the most part. *Must have some sense of comedic timing; even though the comedy is SUBTLE, and extremely understated.*

*Boxing/Martial Arts experience, A PLUS*.
Role typeRoleGender & Age range
ActorBADASS WOMANFemale 30 - 49 Years old
Description
Female, 30s-40s, any ethnicity. Badass Woman does NOT suffer fools. She is ver strong, extremely muscular, and extremely
intimidating to Eva. Role is SOC.

*Boxing/Martial Arts experience, A PLUS*.
