Storyline

This comedic melodrama focuses on the lives and loves of young adults in the buzzing city of Toronto, where they experience love, friendship, and everything in between. Coming from her glamorous world of privilege, Nayla Palmer and her two friends, Zahra and Imani, must face the highs and lows of navigating their twenties. From schemes to scandals, these young women learn quickly to expect the unexpected. With all life’s ups and downs, viewers won’t be able to help but feel connected to them and their character-driven stories.

The first season follows Nayla's journey through the seven stages of her breakup after she admits to being unfaithful on the night of her 2nd anniversary. After landing her fashion dream job, Nayla finds celebrating her newfound glory difficult. When an apartment scam causes Imani and her older sister to become homeless, they have no choice but to move in with coworker and friend Darnell. But when his jealous girlfriend discovers the news, the housemates go from three's company to four. Meanwhile, Zahra is dealing with an unexpected campus romance, family secrets, and the traumas left behind due to her father's suicide.

With the undeniable tone of nostalgia, viewers will fall in love with the aesthetic, the infectious personalities of the characters, and their mind-bending stories.

She's a go-getter who lights up every room with her infectious personality. She's your modern-day Maya Wilkes (from UPN's Girlfriends), smart-mouthed, funny, and filled with words of wisdom, with the swag, confidence, and drive of Khadija James (from Living Single). There are many things she wants to achieve creatively, and she plans to pursue each one. If that means job-hopping until she finds the right one and finds the balance to do these things, then so be it. Have no fear when Imani is here! As a friend, she is incredibly supportive and always knows just what steps to take to make someone feel better. As a natural problem solver, she can come up with a solution to most problems. What's beautiful about Imani is the way she believes in people. She can see the star in you when you don't see it yourself. Not only that, she prided herself on being a good sister. She and her older sister Aya were best friends, and she valued their relationship more than anything. When it comes to those she cares for, she will work hard to ensure that they're aware she has their back. Imani isn't everybody's cup of tea. She was too real for some people, too blunt and too honest. Only special people understand her personality and know how pure her heart is. She always comes with good intentions. That said, it wouldn't hurt to keep her judgmental opinions to herself from time to time. She can come off as a know it all, but she means well. Imani is strongly intuitive and hyper-sensitive. It's as if she can read minds. Even though she's a chatty Cathy, she tends to keep to herself in this sense because she knows what can happen if all is revealed and how it affects others around her. She's easy to talk to, and people usually trust and confide in her. Her presence often causes fear in those who aren't genuine. She tends to have an investigative, penetrating mind and does well with strategizing & group leading/communication. On her free time, Imani studies and takes note of the motivations behind what people do. Specifically, suspicious people. She cannot help but be fascinated. Imani is what you'd call an escapist. She will avoid confrontation by any means necessary. She prefers to prevent reaction/ bad outcomes when something terrible happens and to never deal with the problem. Description Zahra represents physical expression. She's a patient friend who comes with understanding and no judgment. She's Guam Jan-Di from Boys Over Flowers and Hong Seol from Cheese In The Trap with a twist. She's calm, witty, and far more mature and intellectual than your average 21-year-old. Her world may differ vastly from Nayla's, but the two have an unbreakable bond. She's the calm to her storm and vice versa. When you meet her for the first time, she looks like this beautiful sweet face, and you can't possibly imagine this girl will win any debate/argument. She may be sweet, but she has some spice to her. Zahra is the friend you need by your side; you can't pull one over on her! Well, at least not for long. Zahra has always been told what she can and can't do as the youngest and only girl in the family. She's lived her younger years with her controlling brother getting in the way of everything and her Father being extremely overprotective. Her dad passed due to suicide, which caused an emotional shift in the Jhaveri home.?With her mom battling depression, her brother has taken on the head of the household, which includes policing Zahra and telling her what a young girl should and shouldn't do. She always fights back. She's never intimidated by him or any man for that fact. Zahra is the new president of the men don't deserve rights club, down with patriarchy! When wronged, it's tough for her to be forgiving, but she rarely gets noticeably angry. Zahra prefers a world with no conflict, so she tried always to be polite, even if that's not how she felt. She's not usually comfortable doing anything shady, but she'll feel justified if the dishonest act was done with good intention. Peace at any price, right? Make things better. In this sense, it's harmless. But, the people in her life often find issues with her lack of directness and inability to speak her true feelings. It can sometimes appear as if she's cold, but it's not her intention. She's not always able to express her emotions in words. She has an intense fear of betrayal that causes her to demand extreme trust and security to gain her loyalty. With the fear of betrayal being prominent, she's afraid there isn't anyone who can be committed to her. Commitment is all she wants. She will put guys through a series of tests that are not always conscious because she's constantly questioning their intentions. That uncertainty and suspicion are one of her most significant faults in romantic relationships. It could seem like no one can ever give her everything she needs. All Zahra truly wants is to discover her true self and to be free. She'd be studying abroad if it were up to her, but they can't afford it now. One day, she wants to pick up and travel the world. He always makes sure to look good. He has an insatiable passion for life and revels in the finer things. He'll almost always choose the best restaurant, the best hotel, and the best automobile. He's a hard worker, and his family is very wealthy, so he usually has no problem being able to afford such luxuries. Kamero wants to be in the spotlight among a group of adoring fans. He sees himself as a leader, and others often look to him for advice and solutions to problems. He's always more than ready to accept these challenges. People tend to stroke his ego because of this. At school, he is admired by almost everyone except Zahra. She doesn't like him at all, and that's never happened before. For that reason, Zahra is a challenge. Kamero has an excessive amount of self-involvement that undermines his ability to empathize with the feelings of others. Sometimes, he may vacillate between very high or very low self- esteem or experience low self-esteem when he doesn't get sufficient admiration. Although often appearing supremely confident on the outside, Kamero is inwardly sensitive, and his feelings are easily hurt. There's a more profound insecurity. In all things, he needs to feel appreciated and needed, especially by people he wants. This combination of traits has a particular implication for relationships. If ignored or criticized, Kamero tends to be aggressive and confrontational, which Zahra refuses to put up with. When treated with respect or asked for help, he tends to be very warm and generous. The number one way to infuriate Kamero is to reject him. He will amp up his bombast and turn his charisma meter up to eleven.

(Imani referred him to the job.) he has known her for two months and Imani for six months now. Darnell is known as an all-around jokester. He's audacious, bold, and forever brave. Naturally defensive, he becomes argumentative when playful insults are thrown his way. He does not like to hear anything critical about himself. (It may be because he's too insecure but tries to hide it.) He will say anything to invalidate your perspective. There will be no yelling or shouting, but he will cling to your weakest logic and pin you down. He thinks he's right about mostly everything. Including that Giselle is his one true love. He's kind, funny, always has a good time, and the perfect guy friend. He often overextends himself for the sake of others. He's currently unaware of his people-pleasing. Darnell seeks a partner who shares his lust for everything new and different. Remember that anything is possible in relationships with someone as impulsive as him. His independence must not be curtailed, and he will expect his girlfriend to be equally secure and independent. He is neither jealous nor possessive. His straightforward nature appreciates a partner with the bravery to make the first move.

Description OPEN TO ALL NON BLACK POC Amina (20) has known Zahra since their first year. The two met after being in the same group project in their communications class. Amina is?fun, chaotic but in a good way, and always has something to say, whether it makes complete sense or not. She is a social butterfly, and a known flirt. She’s boy crazy, she can’t help it! She initially was drawn to Zahra because of her gutsy personality and her player mentality regarding men. Zahra takes no BS. Amina would like to think she is the same.? Zahra also carries the same work ethic that Amina does. Although it may surprise some, she is extremely hardworking. She isn’t afraid to throw herself into a project, no matter what it takes, and may even go sleepless nights. At school, she is Zahra’s saving grace. She needs a friend like Amina. Finding someone more responsible and reliable than she is would be hard. She will take her responsibilities seriously when left in charge and always show up when you need her to. Of course, as excellent as she is, she does have her flaws. One would be her inability to see the obvious.Since she considers herself to be dedicated to all things, she often thinks that she knows all and knows best and is reluctant to change her mind or her ways.

Being the girl Nayla is, she opened up her home to Paulina and moved her in. Paulina is a firecracker, enthusiastic, and ambitious. It’s hard to get a hold of her because she’s always busy doing many tasks simultaneously. Every time we see Paulina, she’s doing too much. She can’t help it! She’s loads of fun, unpredictable, and likes to get her way, and she’ll stop at nothing. She is a confident liar. She’s the type of person that will look you in your face and hold you when you cry when she knows she’s the reason. Her confidence radiates an appeal you can’t resist. She has an innocent aura about her, making her very approachable. On the outside, she looks like your typical “girl next door,” but looks can be deceiving. Some may call her careless because of her “get over yourself” attitude, but the right person appreciates her tough love. You might learn something from her: the present and future count much more than the past. Her motto is “Fuck it, worry about yourself and the present now.” Paulina is the kind of friend that comes into your life with a parade of excitement followed by chaos one minute and gone the next. Friendships with Paulina are either unique or fleeting but hey! She doesn’t need a big entourage; she can do wrong alone. She is the devil on Nayla’s shoulder. That’s why Imani doesn’t like her very much. (Although she pretends to) She is the person Nayla confides in when she’s ashamed of the reaction from her friends. Paulina is the friend that will always enable and cheer Nayla on when she’s going to make a wrong decision. With Paulina, it is a judgment-free zone. You can make mistakes, she won’t stop you. Nayla is kind and selfless, and Paulina is highly self-serving, which is why this friendship works very well for her.

He is always uncertain about people. Sometimes, he' questions if he believes in love. He can be tough to date. Loyal to his friends and family, Trey lives to help others. He's well-liked because of it. He is good at playing the nice guy, a master of manipulation. He'll do whatever it takes to fix any problems you have. When it comes to searching for the love of his life, he rarely lasts in a loving relationship because he is always seeking the "perfect woman" Critical as he is, he always finds flaws within Nayla. It's as if he gets a rise out of making her feel bad about herself. He often makes her feel as if she's not enough for him. It might be because he feels that way, but he's too cowardly to say it. He thinks he can "fix" her. Trey's good side quickly becomes overshadowed by his darkness. The angry, insecure Trey. The imperfect version. He keeps this version of himself hidden around most people, but the mask tends to fall on Nayla. She knows how he can be and chooses to love him regardless. She sees the light in him, which makes him stay. Her belief in him fuels him and makes him feel like more of a man. He will try his best to be good at everything and know you inside out. He aims to be a master at every task. He's a perfectionist. He can't help but analyze his performance. But, that's only because of his insecurities of never being good enough, which he then reflects onto Nayla
