Roles

LeadCARDELLAFemale 27 - 33 Years old
Description
Black, Female, Late 20's - Early 30's. Our lead, tries to maintain her appearance as a law-abiding citizen and tight-ass, but below her perfectly pressed uniform is a foul-mouthed, latent rebel rule-breaker. She defected from her domestic work family to work in a factory for more pay. She used fake credentials to even get into the country, and!– she’s scamming her local grocer into giving her free chicken wings– “dem nah even know dem a throw away de bes’ part… foolish white people!” But, like I said, her uniform is perfectly and pristinely pressed. She’s come to Toronto in a time of black civil unrest, but the killings of a few rebel-rousers aren’t going to ruffle her feathers. To her mind, “Da police nah trouble you if you nah trouble da police. Idle hands make the devil’s work.”

LeadLUCYFemale 57 - 63 Years old

Black, Female, Late 50's - Early 60's. Much like Cardella, Lucy is hard-working and foul-mouthed.She’s come to Canada late in life, when her kids are all grown up in an effort to start fresh and turn her life around; proving it’s “neva too late tuh string pearls ‘pon your neck.” Unlike Cardella, she’s not passive about the injustices in front of her and has joined a burgeoning group of disgruntled women protesting the killing of black Canadian men and women. In the day time she’s “yes ma’am, how else would you like that ironed.” At night she’s “BUN DEM FYAH ALL DA WAY TO DA GROUND!

LeadMARTYMale 21 - 25 Years old
Description
Black, Male, Early 20's. Marty is your proto activist. He’s at every protest with a bullhorn and a picket sign and– most important to our series– a video camera. He’s persistent, maybe lurky by our standards but, in a way, charming? He’s like Dwayne Wayne meets Steve Urkel meets Marques Houston in Sister, Sister. Problematic but cute… you know? Eventually, he will become useful as an ally and friend to the women of the movement, his journey will be in learning how.
