Storyline
MADELINE, a young and promising weather broadcaster signs off for what will come to be the final time. After being stopped by the lead anchor (STEVE) and later by her best friend (BRENDA), she goes back home. Searching for instructions on how to tie a hangman’s noose, she rummages through her garage in search of rope, finding it alongside a large cardboard box with her name on it. Bringing the box into the living room, she searches through, finding a treasure trove of memories from the rest of her life leading up to it. Madeline watches a handful of home movies, finding a younger, more hopeful version of herself doing a makeshift weather forecast for the camera. She walks back into the kitchen, closing the instructions and opening her curtains as light floods in.
Roles
| Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
| Lead | Madeline | Female 25 - 30 Years old |
Description Open ethnicity. Madeline is the weather broadcaster for the news at WIFR, a small tv station in Rockford, Illinois. She feels as though she has reached a dead end in life, having come back to her hometown to work a job with no real way forward and no chance to retrace her steps and start over. She’s felt this way for years. A victim to monotony and the everyday burdens of America in the later wake of 9/11.Madeline’s performance is primarily physical and light on dialogue overall, despite being on-screen for an overwhelming majority of the film.
| Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
| Principal | Steve | Male 30 - 45 Years old |
Description Open ethnicity. The face of the local news, Steve oozes charisma without the typical vapidity that one would expect to accompany it. Having worked with Madeline for years, he truly cares about her and always wants to make sure she’s alright, but he also knows that he can’t force her to open up to him.
| Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
| Principal | Brenda | Female 40 - 50 Years old |
Description Open ethnicity. Born and raised in Minnesota, Brenda is the receptionist at WIFR and Madeline’s best (and only) friend. Despite being incredibly caring, she’s not always the most perceptive person, sometimes allowing her seemingly endless optimism to come through at unfortunate times.
| Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
| Actor | Young Madeline | Female 8 - 12 Years old |
Description Open ethnicity. Young Madeline radiates pure enthusiasm and hope, and dreams of nothing except presenting the weather on TV. She is carefree, oblivious to the coming burdens of the world.
