Storyline
When an unstable young man chooses to go into work after a tragic loss, his favourite alt-right podcast defies the laws of reality and begins talking to him directly, luring him down a sinister path that could end in his destruction. A campy horror film set in a pastiche cramped office, ‘Alpha’ explores the ways in which far-right political commentators use manipulation tactics in order to lure their, mostly male, victims into a world of isolation and emotional ignorance. ‘Alpha’ seeks to show a man coming to terms with the death of his brother through finding out the true demonic nature of the half-podcast host, half-demon, Aaron Barker. Exploring themes of grief, self acceptance, online manipulative figures, and what it means to be masculine in a way that respects yourself and others, ‘Alpha’ is a film seeking to scare, but also comfort audiences in the way it explores mens struggle with self acceptance in a world that seems to want them to reject mental health help and hate others.
Roles
Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
Lead | Charlie | Male 19 - 28 Years old |
Description Caucasian. Charlie is 23 (Approx.) years old. He is meek, yet emotional. He has a lot of repressed anger and is very susceptible to manipulation. He hides the fact that he’s deeply insecure. He has a victim complex yet is angry about it; essentially convincing himself he's a victim but, at the same time, does not want to feel like one. This makes him frustrated with himself and anyone who interacts with him (always on the defence about any small thing). He tries to be traditionally masculine (in a toxic way), but is not particularly masculine besides just being an average guy.
Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
Lead | Podcast Host/Aaron Barker | Male 30 - 55 Years old |
Description Open ethnicity and voice only. Aaron is the host of the Alpha Males Daily podcast. He is 40 (Approx.), generally angry and will turn any topic he’s slightly interested in into a long drawn out hyperbolic rant. However, he is eloquent despite this. He is very manipulative and does not really understand human emotion besides understanding how to portray anger and rile up others with his rhetoric. He seems to speak strictly in gaslighting terms (everything he says is vaguely manipulative and seeks to make others feel bad about themselves in order to get them to do what he wants). He is mean yet darkly comedic. He always looks for an opportunity to boost himself above others in terms of “the social hierarchy.”
Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
Principal | Cheryl | Female 19 - 40 Years old |
Description Open ethnicity. Cheryl is Charlie’s manager. She is 30 (Approx.). She is understanding yet stern. She is Professional yet still genuinely cares about Charlie, having worked with him for a while. However, being an underpaid manager herself, she won't simply take Charlie’s disrespect. She’s not directly confrontational, she is a bit more passive but not in a mean way. She’s pretty clever.
Role type | Role | Gender & Age range |
Actor | Charlie's Dad | Male 35 - 60 Years old |
Description Open ethnicity and voice only. Charlie's dad is 50 (Approx.). He is a meek single father who wants to help his son in any way but struggles with communicating. He is gentle, so despite his struggle to communicate his emotions, he is not toxically masculine. He is compassionate and generally a good father figure. A good male role-model. He is understanding despite not being the “smartest cookie.” |
