Storyline
When BILAL IRVING left his small hometown bound for a basketball career worthy of his phenom status, he was sure he would never return. But with his recent suspension from the Chinese league, he finds himself desperate for an opportunity to repair his image, and what could change a “coach-killer” narrative more than returning home to coach his old high school team? Only problem is, his old high school coach, COACH SCHMIDT, still holds the reins to his program with iron fists, but after a recent near-fatal heart attack, he’s been forced to accept some co-coaching help he stubbornly doesn’t think he needs.
Yes this ragtag team of high school basketball players need help, they barely know how to get along, let alone play together, but that’s not the only hurdle the team has to overcome. Off the court, Bilal and Coach Schmidt have some differences of opinion on how the team should be run, and they have deeper differences of opinion about what is water under the bridge and what is yet to be forgiven.
Finding themselves forced together again, do Bilal and Coach Schmidt have what it takes to put their differences aside and truly be Warrior Strong?
Roles
Role typeRoleGender & Age range
Large PrincipalSHLOMO ROBINOWITZMale 15 - 25 Years old
Description
Jewish male. Heavy set. If the school could field a proper team, SHLOMO ROBINOWITZ would be the team mascot; instead he’s a shooter without a shooter’s touch. He’s a gun-flinger. A bricklayer. But he has a heart of gold, and for whatever reason, he’s fearless and maybe even a little heroic. Except on Friday to Saturday sundown because of the Sabbath, which often enough happens to fall on high school basketball game nights. *Think Jonah Hill in Superbad.
Role typeRoleGender & Age range
Large PrincipalRUSSELLMale 17 - 25 Years old
Description
Indigenous male. Every team needs a captain, and this team of misfits desperately needs their captain, Anishinaabe heartthrob, RUSSELL KAKEGAMIC, to find his voice and say ... anything. Being a long distance runner has its advantages on a 7-person team; he can literally run all day, all night, and away from any conflict or confrontation, which is a terrible leadership quality from your team captain.
Role typeRoleGender & Age range
PrincipalGUNNARMale 16 - 25 Years old
Description
All ethnicities male. GUNNAR JOHANSSON wants you to adore him the way he adores himself. He wants you to understand that one day you’re going to say “I went to high school with the great guns-ablazing-Gunnar!” He’s an exceptionally gifted basketball player, a farm boy with a Larry Bird touch, he can light it up. And like Larry-the-Legend, he can talk a big game on and off the court, along with bullying his teammates. But basketball’s a team sport, and one day, he has to learn how to pass the damn ball right?
