Storyline
After the burial of his father, CALEB finds a wooden box partially buried in his field. He hides it from his brother, JOSHUA, and upon opening it he finds a book inside, filled with dark magic and summoning rituals. Joshua soon discovers it and tells Caleb to burn it. Caleb does not, and instead goes to the edge of the field and uses the book to summon a spirit. A voice in the forest answers, so Caleb asks for food. The voice turns out to be Joshua, who scolds Caleb for trying to summon a spirit. The next morning, they are shocked to find a fresh meal on their table. Caleb tries to eat it but Joshua stops him and throws the food out. Caleb returns to the forest and talks to the actual spirit he summoned. It gives him bread and wine. The next night, facing a meagre dinner, Caleb is annoyed by Joshua thanking God for the little food they have. Caleb leaves and sneaks out his window. The night is cold, and Caleb is relieved to see a huge bonfire has been built at the edge of the field. He talks to the spirit again and asks for a feast. The spirit reveals a table in the woods, full of food. Caleb takes one last look at his farmhouse, then walks into the forest. He indulges in the feast. The next morning, Joshua looks for Caleb. He finds the smouldering remains of the fire and follows a trail into the woods where Caleb ate. The trail stops, the only thing that remains is the book. Caleb watches from afar, deeper in the forest, but where he stands there is only his shadow. Joshua doesn’t see him and opens the book.
