Description
THIS IS A VOICE ROLE: Doug is the innocent everyman; honest, trustworthy, enthusiastic, open, loving, empathetic, hard-working, grounded and relatable. Because Doug was the runt of his coterie, he recognizes the importance of safety, knowing how dangerous the world can be when the appropriate precautions are not taken. He looks out for those who don’t know about digging, as he cares about workers on construction sites, homeowners, and anyone doing a digging project, as this is his favourite activity and area of expertise. Since he is a born and bred Sasky, he values friendliness, being a good samaritan and friend, and being connected to his community, wanting to keep them safe and educated. His top value is safety – he wants humans to know how to dig safely in order to keep everyone and everything above and below ground safe. Doug is an approachable and informative representative for digging safe, trusting in his knowledge. He should be perceived as supportive rather than preachy, and he should not overwhelm the audience with his information. He will bring a fun, light tone to this without downplaying the seriousness of safe digging. This is the V/O for the character.
Doug's voice is a mature, male voice, with a loveable Saskatchewan accent who can be taken seriously while remaining fun and relatable. Due to Doug’s demeanour, backstory, and small stature, the voice should not be too deep or gruff – it should have a more innocent and cordial tone. He is calm, humorous and firm in his delivery, speaking to the seriousness of safe digging while playing into his docile nature.
