Seventeen-year-old Alex, a Chinese immigrant teen, living with his mother, Chen, works at his family's convenience store. When three intimidating local thugs begin stealing from the store and threatening his family, Alex struggles to understand his mother's willingness to tolerate their abuse.
Chen, terrified of jeopardizing their family's future and immigration status, insists that keeping the peace is more important than standing up to the men. But Alex refuses to accept the humiliation, especially when their threats begin to undermine everything his late father stood for.
As tensions escalate into a physical confrontation, Alex must confront not only the thugs but also the fear that has controlled his family for years. Through a childhood memory of his father, Alex begins to understand the difference between protecting his family and surrendering to intimidation.
Caught between his mother's fear and his father's legacy, Alex must find the courage to stand up for what is right, even when doing so comes at a personal cost.
