Reclaim My Skin uncovers Indigenous women’s history by looking at our traditional cultures where the authority of women, men, queer, non-binary, and transgendered people were in harmonious balance. The documentary series goes back in time to examine the arrival of the European patriarchy and unpack the strategies of how that foreign power attempted to destroy the matriarchal and Two Spirit powers within our communities: slavery, alcohol, body shaming, sterilization, destruction of our food systems, taking of our children (residential schools, 60’s Scoop, foster care), outlawing our ceremonies, and replacement of our governance. Reclaim My Skin looks at how these patriarchal systems were set in place and how they still resonate today.
