Storyline
The short film tells a slice-of-life story set in a family-run Chinese bakery, exploring parenting philosophies and the pressures faced by the younger immigrant generation. The store owner juggles multiple tasks, from running the cash register to making coffee and restocking the display, while also scolding her son in the back kitchen about his life plans. A waiting mother, worried about the well-being of the store owner's son, shares her own parenting philosophies with the store owner, but their assumptions clash in a heated debate. They fall silent when the son emerges from the kitchen, followed by the young daughter of the waiting mother who just finished her Saturday class. The waiting mother initially assumes that the owner's son is much older based on the context of the owner’s scolding, but she's shocked to discover that he's actually a young boy, the same age as her daughter. The film challenges the parenting doctrines that immigrant parents pass down to their children, especially the assumptions and expectations about success and relationships.
