Storyline
Selected in the top 40 at the 2023 Crazy8 pitch competition, Mannequin follows Tunde, a talented black Nigerian craftsman, in his quest for recognition as an artist in Canada. The narrative unfolds with a supernatural twist when a young girl witnesses a mannequin blink at her from the marquee display set of the Peveril Mannequins shop. Flashbacks reveal Tunde, the sole black artisan at Peveril Mannequins, facing exploitation but earning a racially diverse commission from his boss, Jane. As Tunde mines his identity for art, he forms a therapeutic bond with his specialized mannequins. Conflict arises as Jane's racist business approach leads to the destruction of Tunde's favorite mannequin, pushing Tunde to transform himself into a mannequin. Sacrificing his own flesh, he creates the mannequin which becomes a marquee display at Jane's shop.
