Storyline
We begin with a girl (Mia) and her mother (Lin) having dinner, but Mia’s eyes are clearly lost in a dance performance on the television. Lin hears a delivery arrive at the door and goes to get it, at which point she finds a letter for a dance audition scheduled for the next day. Mia insists that she wants to go to a dance audition, and her mother, who is overly critical about the notion of a career in dance, clearly disapproves. Despite her mother’s stance, Mia goes to the audition, after telling her mother that she wouldn’t go. And prepares to do her best to impress the judges. She’s told that she will have 4 minutes to perform, and she begins her contemporary dance performance, telling a story through her movements, she makes it about 45 seconds to 1 minute into the performance and the judges cut her off early, telling her that they’ve seen enough. Mia hastily escapes the audition, and returns home, emotionally distraught and barely holding it in. This results in Lin and Mia having a fight/conversation in which Mia blows up at her mother but they’re eventually able to finally communicate and understand each other’s feelings, as her mother cares for her under the strict and harsh exterior, and Mia holds a lot of passion for this dream that her Lin begins to acknowledge and accept. After this point we skip ahead a few months in the story; Mia and her mother are getting along. Mia is leaving to dance and the mother shows some support, asking her to give her an update afterwards on how things go.
