Comments
We are scouting a potential shooting location in Montreal. If we do end up shooting there, travel and accommodations to MTL will be provided by the production to the two lead actors required for that scene (Greta and Alice).

Chemistry reads for Greta and Alice will be held as part of the audition process for those two characters. Rehearsals for all cast will be held in January and February, pending cast availability.

Trigger warning: adult themes, alcoholism, drug use, sexual assault.

This film contains a sexual assault scene (non-visible - but the characters experience it). Actors applying for the role of Greta and Chretien, please be prepared to discuss your working needs/approach/requirements for navigating this scene. The production will ensure necessary supports are available, as well as an on-set intimacy coordinator.

We can accept union and non-union actors through our student agreement with ACTRA. Actors will receive a copy of the
finished film for their demo reel.
Storyline
Greta is between two worlds: the world ruled by her father and his religion; and the world where she wholly inhabits her body and mind. She escapes from the war at home to visit her cousin, Hansel, seeking refuge. However, Hansel has had enough of her codependency. When he abandons her at a costume party during her brief visit, she is set adrift in the chaos of Montreal’s queer scene while emotionally - and physically - defenseless. Within the confines of one life-altering night, Greta experiences a carnivalesque queer reality she’d never dreamed of and is forced to decide: remain in that treacherous purgatory, the closet; or risk being seen for who she truly is - a lesbian?
Roles
Role typeRoleGender & Age range
LeadGretaFemale 18 - 35 Years old
Description
(Black / Biracial)
Greta has tired eyes and bites her nails until theres nothing left to bite. She is pretty in a strange, sombre way. Greta is hypervigilant and she’s very good at faking a smile. She is not, however, very good at getting close to people. She believes god is always watching over her - so she tries not to look at women for too long…

LeadAliceFemale 18 - 35 Years old
Description
(Open-ethnicity)
Alice is a witty, ex-punk lesbian studying Studio Art at Concordia University. She is tired of her spacious apartment and her scripted-feeling conversations with her art school friends. She has reached a point where she stares at her manicured, ring-cluttered hands and wonders why she doesn’t recognize them any more. Maybe Montreal is starting to feel too small for her - or maybe she should just quit smoking again. Hopefully Alice will feel like herself again when she finally gets that next tattoo.

Description
(Black / Biracial)
Hansel is Greta's cousin who moved to Montreal to study Studio Art at Concordia University. He has well moisturized skin and mischevious eyes. On any given day of the week or month he knows where in the city to go to find his type of men and his type of music - he refuses to settle for that mainstream bullsh*t. He has a critique next week and his 4ft by 6ft painting is not yet finished- and his dear cousin is coming to visit.

Role typeRoleGender & Age range
PrincipalChrétienMale 18 - 40 Years old
Description
(Open Ethnicity)

Chrétien (he/him) is a francophone DJ who plans to move to Paris once his music career takes off. His music draws influence from house and postpunk and even Midwest emo. Chrétien was born and raised in Montreal - he grew up in Laval and then moved downtown after finishing CEGEP to study music at Concordia. Chrétien works at the Department of Music's Equipment Depot, and meets all kinds of interesting people there. He sees himself as a kind of renegade who doesn’t give a fuck and takes whatever life throws at him with open arms - like a man.
