We can accept union and non-union actors through our student agreement with ACTRA. This is a non-paying student film and no permit is required. Actors will receive a copy of the finished film for their demo reel. Transportation and food provided / reimbursed.

Storyline

As Tet (Vietnamese New Year) approaches, a young Vietnamese immigrant grapples between the complexities of their culture and transmasculine identity, when pressured by their mother to wear a feminine áo dài dress.

Description Gender: assigned female at birth / Trans-male / Non-binary accepted. A Vietnamese teenager assigned female at birth, Trang feels discomfort with their body and desires to present themself in a masculine expression amidst the pressures of familial and cultural expectations. Their journey of self-discovery is marked by moments of hesitation and defiance, revealing a deep inner conflict as they seek acceptance from both their traditionally feminine and often-controlling mother. Description A Vietnamese devoted mother and wife, Huong passionately strives to embrace her family’s cultural traditions upon moving to Canada, while navigating more changes in her life regarding her child’s growing up and evolving identity. Having made many sacrifices at a young age in a post-war country once with heavy economic instability, she sees her first daughter as a second chance, but her expectations lead to conflicts highlighting complex generational differences. Description When offered a stable job in Canada, Tan is a Vietnamese immigrant who recently brought his wife and child to join him on a new life on foreign lands in the promise of a better future. As he navigates the challenges of immigrant life, he finds himself constantly at work to provide financial stability for his family, yet slowly growing more disconnected from them and his cultural roots.
