Storyline
After falling flat on his face in the big city, Paul tries to slip back into life on the rez as if nothing happened, but his eccentric family's not having any of it. On Grouse Lake First Nation, way up in Northern Manitoba, you’ll find a community that lives by its own set of rules. The only way to get up to this isolated fly-in community is on a bumpy nine-passenger bush plane that has a dashboard like an 89’ Corolla and every time it bounces in the air you think you’re going to crash. It’s up on Grouse Lake where you’ll find Paul and Dean, two bickering cousins who have been running the family lodge for years, and their assorted family and friends - amongst whom the worst insult you can hurl at someone is the accusation of "Acting Good." - a common rez expression that people wield against each other whenever they’re perceived to be full of themselves. It’s basically the process of making sure nobody ever gets too big for their britches (and humility is one of the seven sacred teachings after all.) Deep down, "Acting Good" is a celebration of life on the rez. Despite the feelings of isolation, life up north comes with freedom and natural beauty that you don’t often find anywhere else - and lots of good-natured but occasionally barbed ribbing amongst family… and friends so close they might as well be family.
