Storyline
A caring older sibling — whose high expectations have put him in a rut — tries to help his 16-
year-old brother with high-functioning autism on his first date with a girl.
Roles

Description
Open-ethnicity.

A loving 24-year-old who's deeply devoted to helping his much younger brother, Charlie, which he has done for most of his life due to
Charlie's high-functioning autism. His own life is not so sorted out; he’s single, unemployed, and struggling to connect with people due
to unrealistic expectations for himself and those around him. One of these expectations: becoming a successful songwriter, a dream
that nags him day after day… and that he’s a long ways off from accomplishing. As this story begins, he feels like a failure, stuck in a
rut that he can’t claw his way out of. But he figures, even if he can’t get his own life together, he might be able to steer Charlie’s in a
better direction.

Description
Open-ethnicity. Looking to cast someone 18+ for this role. We are looking to cast someone on the spectrum but we are open to other
submissions.

An empathetic, talkative, but somewhat socially stunted 16-year-old with high-functioning autism. His HFA manifests itself in
obsessive interests like railways and trains, difficulty understanding certain social cues, and a lack of ease in certain public situations.
In these situations, he stims — self-stimulates — by squeezing a stress ball in order to relieve tension. In spite of stereotypes
surrounding children and teenagers on the spectrum, he’s a deeply empathetic and spirited person. And he looks up to his older
brother, wanting to be like him in every which way, even going so far as to sit wherever he sits, wear what he wears, and try telling
jokes.

Description
Open-ethnicity. Looking to cast someone 18+ for this role.

An apathetic 16-year-old who’s been forced into spending time with Charlie because of a connection between their mothers. Not that
there’s much else going on in her life. She has friends at school, but isn’t totally comfortable with them, feeling most of the time like
she can’t fully speak her mind in their presence. She is terribly uninterested in Charlie when she first meets him, unwilling to give him a
chance. But, over time, she becomes genuinely attached to him, discovering that she can talk to him about things she can’t talk about
with her other friends, like her passion for trains that has remained with her since her early childhood.
